loppers require some 'elbow room' my silky requires some but very little so is always a can do
also mush have the scabbard but they can break . guess should have tied to my leg

I have about 30 of them in rocky lava "soil" so have to keep wet .
very slow up to about 3 1/2 ' now & getting more rapid as get larger

Must be careful with soil analysis as some elements may be present but bound up & thus not available. So if possible get a leachate analysis as thats what the plant will have access to.

I tried & was a disaster probably cause I  am @ 150' in thew trades .  So tried rollinia & has does well here but too far  from market & poor shelf life.

I have had good luck using a twist tie [ the kind with wire in center] & wrapping around twice so that good pressure can be applied.
Once I see buds sprout I loosen the twist tie & leave the rest of tape alone.

I always heard that Nabal, the parent of Reed was kept by all the old time growers next to their house as a door yard tree.
It was the best tasting but a poor producer. /// thus that might be worth looking for
In windward Hawaii my Reed as been a big disappointment
