I'd bag all the ones within reach and then hop on that ladder and also bag whatever you can reach from there. The more they turn color the more they are a target for pests like birds, squirrels, etc. I think those lychees can stay on the tree for another week...

Just checking this , not that I don't believe dwfi .....but years and years ago I got seeds from the " yellow " from Bryan Brunner  in PR , all turned out black , so now I am stuck with 8 blacks .... I just want somebody to confirm if it is possible that the yellow " sometimes " can reconvert to BLACK.

If you have some seeds left TreesNMore / Mike I'd be interested in buying .

I got some from Australia also but they are not as vigorous as the black ones .

Yeah, if you plant the seeds from the "yellow" there's no guarantee that plant will end up with yellow fruit. I planted some anyways and will wait it out

Had the pleasure of tasting these at Mike's nursery (Trees N More) this past weekend. Pure sweetness. Taste is obviously similar to the dark variety of Grumichama but slightly different. Buy em!

after eating more and more of these, I'd say the flavor reminds me of syzygium cumini, but the texture is not gelatinous, and the fruit is nowhere near as astringent.

I bought one of these off you at the Manatee sale recently, Adam. Were these from Oscars seeds or? Just curious...!

Achacha grove in QLD, Australia. Haven't found any other photos of groves (I'm sure there are some in S. America)

According to a commercial farmer in Brasil, it may take  anywhere between 7 and 10 years to fruit.
A friend of mine reported that one of his trees fruited in 5 years and that tree is a poor producer.
One of my trees is holding fruits after almost 8 years old.
The commercial farmer also recommends growing them from seeds.  He said that seedling are more vigorous and more productive than grafted trees.

Thanks for the info, Berto! Where at in Southwest Florida are you growing the Achachairu? How big is your tree at ~8 years and is it in ground, in pot, full sun?

Flowering:
--Grumichama (black/dark) for 3rd time this year
--Surinam Cherry (Lolita) for 3rd time this year
--Canistel
--Cattley guava
--Mexican Cream guava
--Barbados cherry
--Miracle fruit (almost always flowering)

Fruiting:
--Limequat
--Cattley guava
--Variegated guava
--Mangoes - everything did OK except Carrie in my yard. Carrie seemed to be frozen in time and just woke up a couple days ago and trying to flower. Removed fruit from Sweet Tart and Lemon Zest)
--Passion fruit (purple)
--Mulberry
--Barbados cherry
--Miracle fruit

Ahh, a greenhouse for some winter protection if/when you need it would be a good idea.  On the rare occasions I see low temps, I can throw the plants I'm worried about into my RV bay inside garage where it can stay much warmer than outside.   Best of luck, knlim. Pina Colada is another great tasting mango I'd recommend if you can source it - they are kind of ugly and somewhat small size mangoes but the flavor is great.

#1 thing I'm looking for is taste/flavors, productivity is not a big concern.

So these are the top 4 : Edward, Dot, ST, or Ugly Betty  per Jeff taste buds.

Frank , you have any of these tree to sale?  I love to get all 4. I will try to make room for it in the yard.

I'd vote for ST if it's taste/flavor you're looking for. You're in Redwood City California? Have you gotten mango trees to produce fruit there for you? Taste won't matter much if they don't produce, but if you can get them to produce and ripen you'll be in mango heaven eating ST mangoes.

How about Kathy (K-3), Pina Colada or Springfield?

I didn't think Kathy was available  ???

Attainable. I suppose not easily

Thanks--I guess another 2-3 weeks min for mangoes

Yeah 3 to 4 weeks likely. Nam Doc Mai will be first or one of the first available there. Also the farmers market on Tuesdays at Surfside plaza in Cape Coral - Michael Wallace of Pine Island Botanicals is there every tuesday with his locally grown fruits for sale. He'll have good mangoes available soon as well - lemon meringue (PPK), NDM x Baileys Marvel, Cac, VP, etc.

thanks to everyone who showed up at the sale!

it was great to meet some forum members, and put faces to usernames.

to be honest, I was worn out!  I fell asleep at 3 am the night of the sale, and had to wake up at 4:30am...

I ate a small breakfast, and headed to the sale...I got in early, as planned, and was able to unload well before the doors opened to customers.  This was the first year I did it with no hired help (thanks to Vernmented, and other club members who helped load, and unload...it took a load off my shoulders)

I brought about 10lbs of red jaboticaba, some Grimal fruits, (about 5 white jabo fruits) and a pound of pitangatuba fruit...I wish I had brought even more...but I'm not that generous.

People went crazy for the red jabos...it helped me sell a bunch of larger size trees...all of my smaller trees sold out...I should have brought more smaller trees.

sold lots of small pitanagtubas, and even some flowering size ones.

sold quite a few rainforest plums, one gal about 1ft tall

brought 4, but only sold one big ass miracle fruit tree... (btw, I have a bunch more here i really need to get rid of....might be able to deliver to certain locations in South and Central FL....they are over 6ft tall, over 20 yr old...$100 ea...buy more than 2 and I reduce price to $90....gotta get rid of them...they are too big...and all need 25gal pots...)

sold grafted Myrciaria vexator, should fruit this year..sold some big yellow jabos...one was like 6ft almost...sold bunch of the small Plinia spiritosantensis seedlings,..about 8-12 inch tall.

sold a few Plinia sp. (Escarlate)  6 inch tall one gal.

sold grafted Plinia trunciflora, about 4 ft tall,...this tree was beautiful!

sold some seedling rollinias from my Monstrinho tree,

sold a seedling of Kimber Red, about 7ft tall with first flowers, in 7 gal,  (a man came and got it about 5 minutes after I reduced the price)

sold a seedling atemoya from australia (pinks mammoth), flowering in a 3 gal pot, about 4 x 4ft...
sold out of Garcinia intermedia seedlings, I think i had 3 of them about 3.5 ft tall, close to fruiting .

sold grafted illama "genova red", just healed about 10 inch tall, one gal pot,  (thanks to the kind man who got it)

also sold small grafted A. salzmannii just healed, about 10 inch tall, branched very well, one gal pot,..(I didn't see who got it...I wanted to talk to person who bought this plant, and tell them how special it is...)

sold a few myrciaria guaquiea seedlings...quite small...and also had a lone M. strigipes seedling that sold....

and then almost sold out of Grimals...I had one close to fruiting, seedling, and one grafted, close to fruiting...and then a few smaller ones

that's all I can remember for now..thanks again to all who attended, and supported me.

Adam, your set up was great. I didn't see any other vendor with garcinia species. The jabo samples you had up front were drawing people in droves. Having samples out is a great idea. I bought two of your g. intermedia trees - how old are they? (one was 3.5 feet tall, the other about 2 1/2 feet tall. Did you have them in full sun or? I have them in partial sun underneath some wide spread Inga trees right now. Also bought a Rainforest Plum (eugenia candolleana).

Fruitscapes (near you) had passion fruit, sapodilla, sugar cane and coconuts. No mangoes yet, getting closer

Was a very nice sale. I liked Adam's selection and setup. TopTropicals was right across from him and they had some good stuff as usual too. I bought 3 of Adam's plants and that was all for me. Would have probably bought more if I had brought a cart instead of the wife.  ;D

Oscar, have you tried Trompo or Fairchild#2 variety? How does it compare? I know the flesh doesn't seem to be as yellow but that doesn't mean much

http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/2188583/night-dining-beetles

Yessir, I see 5-10 of them every morning stuck in my water barrels by a light source. My cats swat/kill them too. However, I have not noticed any damage from them to any of my plants/trees over the past couple years. I've never even seen them on my plants (weevils on the other hand...). Maybe they feast on the yearly acacia or carrotwood tree in my neighbors yard when they aren't aimlessly flying into my sliding doors at night.

The bug is a june beetle. They're all over my cement slab/sliding glass door area at night time. They haven't been nearly as much of a pest as the Weevil at least for me

Doesn't sound like naturelover was lying to customers or anything in bad taste. From what I'm reading, he actually did them a good service by steering them away from the Haden  ;D and towards better varieties that would work for their needs.

I was originally thinking bananas, but if i can get a few trees there instead that would be nice.

Didn't want put jabos and other tress with small fruits there because that part of my yard is often neglected so a lot of the fruit would drop and go to waist.

Don't think i can grow mangsteen here

Well, you can grow it. Getting it to fruit is another story. There is a backyard grower in Bokeelia, FL who has a tree that has been in the ground for years now and supposedly looks good but no luck on flowers/fruits as of yet. I have not actually seen this tree with my own eyes but Steve at Fruitscapes has.
