Ate ping pong longan many years ago in Thailand. Don't remember particulars about it's taste, except that it was good. The main selling feature of this cultivar is its large size and also the fact that it is a tropical longan, that is will bear consistently in tropical areas, like Diamond River longan.

Hi Richard.  Great to meet you in person yesterday and thanks for the Ping Pong longan seedling.  I had forgotten, until I read this thread that I was at the farm where we tried the Ping Pong longan.  It was nice tasting.  Much better than Diamond River.  However, it did not have the amazing size that has been quoted (3" in diameter).  The seed to flesh ration was typical for a longan.  The ones we tried did not have underdeveloped or chicken tongue (to use lychee terminology) seeds.  Now as to whether the ones we had were truly Ping Pong......of course is always open to discussion.  Ian, whose farm it was, is pretty particular in his collecting, planting and trying to properly ID things.  But, as we all know, no one and nothing is always perfect.

Just wanted to mention that Kohala can get as large as a golfball but flavor and sweetness diminishes when it's gets this large. Ive had some Kohala that were really large but not quite golfball size and they were excellent. http://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=9315.msg161606#msg161606

Thanks Waldi.

It seems like there is another interesting longan cultivar called Pink Longan and my local nursery may have it.
