Guava ID?
« on: September 05, 2015, 03:33:01 PM »
I got the guava tree from Walmart and it had the tag Mexican Guava. I was wondering if it was Mexican Cream Guava. You never know what you can buy at Walmart.   :) It was flowering in 1gal pot and I got a good set of fruits. A couple started to smell good, got bigger in size, and soft to the touch still being green. One fell of the tree when I was trying to tight droopy limbs to the trellis (another one disappeared last night :(). So I tasted it today. Here are a few pics. The fruit was soft (creamy) inside not crunchy and had less bigger but seeds, not very sweet but pleasant taste.

i dont think its a mexican cream.
i believe its a "white" variety.
i have what i think is a Mexican cream. the flesh is soft,
creamy, and yellowish.
of course mine turn a greenish yellow when ripe.

Its hard to tell if yours is ripe, or, if the tree just aborted the fruit
sometimes they do that with a very young tree.

I bought a Mexican white from Home Despot on sale $3)
its only a tad larger than yours I picked up an "Asian White"
(Malay white ?) i forget now the name...

The fruit on my Mex white is shaped a bit different than this though
which is very interesting to me.
Its more pear shaped, than round.

Thank you, greenman62. I hoped you would respond. I remember from the other thread you had Mexican cream in your tree collection. I have only one fruit that is shaped like a pear. Is your Mex. cream yellowish inside and outside? Is the fruit soft to the touch? The Asian white...  you are probably talking about Thai guava. I have one too. It's big, white inside, crunchy sort of.
