Sambo Sweet Lemon

Sambo Sweet Lemon ( 'Sumo' on the tag) now is one of my favorite citrus trees. The tag was messed up as usual.

Looks very similar to a Sanbokan. My Sanbokan produce excellent sweet fruit.

Yes, curious about the lineage.  Do all the fruit set at one time? My meyers blooms three times a year here.

Laaz, after some research on the internet I believe it is Sunbokan but also called Sumo (Sambo?) and the tag on my tree said 'Sumo sweet'. Do you have a picture of your tree you could show us? Is it in the ground?

I know very little about this citrus. Bought it at the nursery a couple of years ago as a little rooted branch. The woman that sold it to me told me it's very sweet lemon. I didn't actually believed her but since I was into citrus already gave it a try.  :D And I am glad I did. In the picture with three fruits one in the middle is a Shiranui just to show the size of the lemons and the shape is similar too.

Here's a few pics of mine. The are a grapefruit hybrid, but taste just like sweet lemonade.

Nice pics Laaz. Thank you for posting. What about a productivity and cold sensitivity? Also, the skin? The skin on mine peeled very easy like on Dekopon or Pomelo and actually the fruit reminded more Pomelo than grapefruit to me.

I have one that I picked up late summer as a cutting grown tree (sanbokan).  Thus far I have a meyer, sanbokan, taichang, and lemonquat as far as lemons go.  I have only harvest the lemonquats thus far.

I am a bit confused in this case.
Identical citrus as on Galka picture is usually sold in USA as citrus ujukitsu, or ujukitsu sweet lemon. You can type ujukitsu to google and you will see identical pictures. Sulcata aka sambokan is a little bit different  citrus.
But it looks like genuine citrus ujukitsu is totaly different citrus from sour orange group. Citrus sold in US as citrus ujukitsu looks identical to citrus ampullacea known as hyoukan in Japan  西郷瓢柑 or Saigo Hyoukan to me.

I have tasted them grown down here in South Florida...consistently horrible.

As for Sumo and hiw the name relates to a Shiranui/Dekopon, Sumo is not the variety but a trasemarked name.
