Windy balcony and trying a self-watering pot to grow passion fruit

Does anyone have experience with these type pots, where the water drips into an enclosed bottom that supposedly evaporates up and through the root system?

I'll be using one to try out a passion fruit vine. The wind will be challenging enough, if I can get it to fruit i'll be surprised but happy.

The plant is not doing well. It is dropping leaves, and looking weak.

I think the self-watering Santino pot is not drawing water in the reservoir into the roots. There is water visible in the window, but the top of the soil is dry. In theory the plant should drink up 100% of that water, right?

In theory, yes. Maybe you should water it until it has deep roots to take up enough water to handle the wind.

Thanks, yea I think its best to water it everyday, without flooding the reservoir. It kind of defeats the purpose of the self-watering pot, but it must be done now to save the plant.
