What is happening to my mango tree
« on: October 14, 2022, 02:55:11 AM »
Hi

A couple of years back me and the kids planted a mango seed just for fun. Since we live in cold Sweden, with only a couple of warm months per year, we didn't think it would work. But the seed started to grow and after three years we had a decent-looking plant, of course not a tree, but still, we were proud of the progress.

This summer the plant took a big leap and grow about 25 cm / ~10 inches, this was the biggest jump we had seen so far.

Everything looked good until one month ago. The top part of the plant started to get darker leaves and the shoots on the top lost their small leaves. But at the same time start pushing new leaves into the lower part of the plant.

Any idea what is happening? Should I cut something off? Thanks for any advice you might have.

Maybe not enough water? It's hard to tell. Is it cold right now? Maybe that spot doesn't get enough heat and sun light?

Post in the mango disease thread to get expert opinion: https://tropicalfruitforum.com/index.php?topic=1001.2325

My guess is that low humidity and low light are starting to take their toll.

Does the soil dry out quickly after watering?

Too much water and not enough sun and heat is my guess.
