Growing Mango Trees in substrate other than Soil?
« on: September 14, 2020, 06:04:26 PM »
Out of pure curiosity, has anyone tried growing mangos in anything other than soil mix? Maybe sawdust, cypress mulch? If you must know why I ask...because I’ve always been curious.

Well it's not a mango, but I planted a rose apple in 100% oak sawdust. surprisingly it is growing and looks healthy.

By the way, too add to my question: i started an experiment today. I planted a small grafted mango tree in a 15 gallon pot today. I put 4 inches of black cow at the bottom and then filled the pot with cypress mulch and planted the mango tree in the mulch with the taproot almost touching the manure. I call it “the jungle floor” method. Win or lose, It will be interesting.
