Question
« on: October 05, 2020, 02:15:23 PM »
Hi-
What can I grow in a climate where temps can exceed 100ºF in summer but rarely go below 35ºF in winter (border of 9b-10a)? Thank you!

Thank you very much! I was also thinking of trying to grow something tropical here, because I'm sick of apples, grapes, and the occasional berry.

In Menlo Park, we had two separate nights this past January when temperatures dropped below 32°F. That was enough for my established pineapple plants in pots to be damaged and take many months to recover. I used a frost cover, like Agribon. The bananas (also in pots) were quicker to come back and are larger than last year, but I don't expect to see fruit from the trees.

Greetings, fellow Menlo Parker! Frost covers do seem like a very good idea. I already have a "Purple Possum" passionfruit vine inside, and it's growing like a weed, as well as several citrus outside.
