Planting Out Carambola Seedling
« on: February 15, 2021, 07:18:07 PM »
I started a couple carambola seeds in 6” pots last year. At what point should I move them out of the pots and into their final spots in the yard?  They will be going into an understory location with morning sun. Can they go out in their current 4-6” range or should I wait until they’re taller?

In general, it is nice if you can get a tree to 3 gal size before planting it out. I feel like they have better survival and are easier to care for than very small trees. There are some exceptions to this rule with trees that need to develop long tap roots, but that should not be an issue for starfruit.

Mine were in 3 gallon pots when I got them ~4-5' tall and took three or four years.
