It will really grow a lot this summer.
All your blooms look pure congratulations.

Planted 4/2021 (small 3 gal). Over 6 feet tall now. Flowering all over, various stages and some fruit set already. Will only let it hold 2 or so mangoes this year.

Thanks Bovine, couldn’t be happier. My absolute favorite fruit in the world(so far).

Roblack, BEAUTIFUL. I love to see precocity in my favorite mango tree. Going to steal some budwood and convert my NDM to sugarloaf this summer. One tree ain’t enough for me.

Thanks HA. Mine doesn't "pop!" like yours; too much greenery behind all of my trees.

Have yet to try this mango. Pretty sure it will be loved. Have a NDM4 that can be top-worked as well.

Hate to burst everyone's bubble but E4 is known for not setting fruit when you.  When young, it tends to throw predominantly male blooms and the females seem to not set fruit.

My E4 is about the same size, it also pushed a lot of flowers one branch decided to flush instead, I do notice a few tiny "mango-ettes" hopefully they wont drop, I'll be happy if I get at least 4 fruit of that tree, it was planted late 2019.

You guys spray the bb or pea size mangos with anything to help them set?
I don't have one yet, gathering knowledge.

I have lots of open space, sun and air circulation but I don’t spray anything. I have some baby fruits on the older panicle now.

That doeant make sense.  If you gave bb or pea size fruit, those have set (at least for the time being).

Will try to snap a picture tomorrow.   Tree has been in ground since May 2017.  Goes bloom crazy every year but mainly male flowers.  This year, the blooms met mr. frost...

My tree has been a slow grower. Currently, it is 5ft tall by 3.5 ft wide. I got two 3gals when they were released to the general public. Both were tiny. I grew them in pots for a while and planted the stronger tree from a 7 gal. Other mango trees I planted at the same time are now twice as big. The one I still have in a 7g pot does not grow much either.

Of the 10 panicles on the first wave of 2021 flowering, there is only a single bb sized fruit on the tree. I will remove all fruit this year since this tree is a slow grower and too small.

1st fruit set. Might let this one make a run for it, if it holds.

...all the other panicles appear devoid of fruit, which is fine for this year.

I've had it multi grafted to one of my trees for 3 years now
Last year the fruits got to slightly bigger than a golf ball then fell...one of the saddest moments of the season...didn't get to eat any sugar loaf last year :'(

I have it topworked onto a tree now
I found it to be on lower vigor too

Your bubble is too thin skinned, burst way too easily :).
If you have flowers and have some bb size panicles, maybe your tree will be the exception.  That, right there, is cup half full my friend.

And if they all fall off, what one more year to wait for top quality fruit.

If the tree is too small to hold fruit, then let it grow and tell yourself it is best that way.

While I would like to try my own SL soon, much more focused on growing a healthy and productive tree for years to come. Don't care if it drops all fruit this year.

For holding fruit so they don't fall off after bb size, do any of you spray copper or nutrients?

Awesome trees and great info my fellow sugarloafers.

Has anyone had their E4 Tree long enough to produce edible fruit? Maybe Alex? Maybe someone has top worked it on to a big old rootstock?
If one has had their tree long enough for fruit, please share info on how productive, and at what age.
Thanks so much
-all of us sugarloaf-lovers.

Longing to get answers to long term questions about Sugarloaf is not possible at this time. The only person who can answer these questions is Mr Zill or someone who worked along side of him with the mother E4. The first grafted E-4’s went into the ground around November-December 2018. I bought 13 trees from the first batch of grafted E-4’s and my subjective observational comments are worthless so I won’t even utter them. I got real lucky the summer of 2018 and was in the Zill office when they had E-4 fruit in the boxes. Mr Zill asked my to taste one and I thought it was at that point the greatest tasting mango along with Pineapple Pleasure. So every month after that I called the office to ask if the trees were on sale yet. So far this year is looking like the greatest mango season in years so with that being said if I said that Sugarloaf trees seem to be the most flowering young trees I ever saw, it really makes that statement meaningless. As far as how fast it grows....what’s the rush so long as it’s healthy. With 13 of them in the ground I honestly haven’t seen a pattern where I could say fast or slow up or out. They were 18” or less when I took them home and they’ve been in my solid limestone (except for the holes I jackhammered) for 2 years 2 months.

My E4, went in ground as a 10 gal in May 2017.  Was in heavy bloom when hit by frost.  All blooms were toasted.  Mist of my trees that were in open bloom when the frost hit have nothing but evidence of toasted pannicles.

From my small experience with different varieties I can second this sentiment. Smallest tree that has ever flowered on my property by far is e4/sugarloaf beating some trees that actually have been in ground for few years and this one only been in ground for few months. Too early to tell as far as actual productivity etc I most likely will remove all fruit if any set.
