King White Mulberry Scions
« on: February 24, 2021, 12:44:49 PM »
I'm going to be doing some severe pruning on my king white mulberry and figured I'd offer up some scions. It produces fruit nearly as long as Pakistani and is pure syrupy sweet with a touch of watermelon flavor. The buds are just about to pop open so it's a great time to graft them.

Looks like this one:

Most of the pruning will be pencil thickness or a bit thinner, and between 4" - 10" long.

$4 per branch, minimum 5 branches. Will ship in USPS priority box.

PayPal for payments and US / PR only.

I have heard white mulberry doesn't root very well and is best for grafting.

FYI, veggieman01, I have tried to root (outside in pots) most of the mulberries cuttings I have and the white pakistan seems to be one of the most difficult to root.

So far I have 0 % success to grow out and have good roots. Good results for the Black Pakistan, Red Himalayan, Shangri La, Thai Dwarf, Tice, and all seedling tree cuttings.

Its much easier to root some strong mulberry tree cutting, then in 1 yr graft the variety you want onto the rootstock you made.

I would agree... I have been able to graft White Pakistan successfully onto Thai Dwarf rootstock.

Thai Dwarf is definitely my preferred for mulberry grafting, never had it NOT take. It's been 100%.

I got 2 scions each of white and black pak at the OC CRFG scion exchange this year, I can't say for sure they are what they are labeled as.. the stored energy in the scions put out flowers/fruit which basically confirmed they are pak based on size.

Regardless, I used rooting hormone gel + figpop method (my medium is coco + perlite) and all four scions have put out roots in ~5 weeks, we shall see if they become more established and likely next year I'll know if I have 4 black or 2 white & 2 black.

There are a few more branches I can probably clip right now before they burst open. I know a few people PM'd me but I was not sure how many I had left. Can you please PM me if you want some? Probably have no more than 10, so two orders of minimum 5.

I want to get scions out earlier this year since some people's didn't work last year. If you ordered scions from me that didn't work last year, just pay for the USPS shipping and I'll send them out for free to you.

If anyone wants white mulberry, I've got quite a bit to cut. Same deal, $4 each, min 5. US / PR only.

Tried to respond to everyone thank you for the interest, a few notes:

I personally haven't had any luck rooting these, so you probably are best grafting this!

I have a bit thinner than pencil size diameter mostly and will include any smaller side branches I clip off for free.

Just out of curiosity, which grafting method did you use?

Easier to send a message here than to everyone who is PM'ing. I am taking take of Akin and Kevin Jones today and will survey the tree tomorrow to see how much I can nip off.

Thanks for the patience, I will respond 1) if I have enough and 2) in the order PMs were sent. If no response, I don't have enough. I am happy to offer this though since it seems in high demand.

I have two more bags of scions. Iím throwing as many clippings that seem usable as possible in each, even small stuff just to make sure if you donít like one of the scions thereís something else for you to attempt with. I will contact two more folks and I think thatíll be about it for the year. Maybe have one more but need to look at the tree again.

Thanks everyone.
