Avocado Tree doctor
« on: March 22, 2021, 07:32:35 PM »
Is anybody able to look at this avocado tree and tell me why it's unhappy? Root rot? Lack of water?

There is a lot of new growth coming on but some it has brown tips.

Thanks

What's the salt content of the water you're using?

Pretty typical this time of year.  Wait 'till June/July to assess condition of tree.  Old leaves fall off, replaced by new ones.  Dissolved solids in the water are retained in the leaf tips after water is transpired out.  One precaution is that excessive loss of leaves can lead to sunburn of limbs.  Water-based latex paint will protect the limbs.

I have very mineral rich water. I see it precipitating on the inside of my house, like a stalactite.

I meant the inside of my hose, not house. Ha.

I recommend some of this before fertilizing again.

Helps a lot with my avocados since I also have water with stupidly high mineral content. I do a soil rinse in the fall and spring.

Also great for other plants suffering from compacted, salt contaminated soil.
