I hate it lol.  I'd rather mangos adjust to warmer winters!  :)

Cold today, rain tomorrow, guess that should take a bite our of my early bloom. Now to wait on the second bloom.
Jupiter farms was in the mid to high 30s this morning.  Coldest this year by far.

Not too bad out here on Pine Island. Think we saw about 40-42. North Fort Myers had some frost! Another cold front coming soon but doesn't look to be as bad. Edit: spoke too soon - next one might be colder.

Yeah, if the current forecast is correct, Saturday night could actually be the coldest night of the winter--below freezing for Central Florida and points west.

My Carrie mango (2 yrs in the ground from a 3 gal) bloomed end of Dec.

A couple of nights below 40 in the last ten days. Flowers gone, no sign of any fruit. Should I cut off the dried blooms?  Forecast says 33F for upcoming Sat night into Sun morning.

Couple of other mango trees bloomed early Jan with fewer blooms but have tiny fruit on them. Assuming these are toast given the forecast temps?

Any possibility of these trees blooming again or will I have to resign myself to having no mangoes from my trees this year?

What are the chances that my comatose Pickering will awaken after a two day frostfest?

Those flowers should die off but they should bloom again. Give it some time

Almost certain Carrie would.  The initial flush for me if often dominated by male flowers any way.  If yours does the same, don't worry, just wait for the next flush.

This setup for a cold front is looking pretty bad for South FL. Low Temps in the 30s.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

dwfl and orkine - Thankyou!

Should I cut of the dead blooms or just leave them?

Dr Jonathan Crane sent out this link this evening ,video for cold prep.

To: Tropical Fruit Growers

It may get cold/freeze Friday night/Saturday morning and/or Saturday night/Sunday morning. Here is a link [Freeze Protection of Tropical Fruit crops in Florida - Dr. Jonathan Crane - YouTube] to our videos on protecting tropical fruit trees from freeze events (in Miami-Dade County and outside Miami-Dade County). To help prepare right now (called pre-freeze irrigation) – run your irrigation systems for a few hours (2-3) to get the soil wet – the wet soil will absorb the sunlight Thursday and Friday/Saturday and re-radiate the stored heat back into the grove at night. Note: It’ll be too late for the pre-freeze irrigation if we get windy by Friday – why? Because the wind will cause evaporative cooling and make the environment cooler.

National Weather Service (NWS) has forecast 36F for south Florida (Miami-Dade Co.) on Jan. 29-31 (Saturday night/Monday morning). However, it may get colder than that because their temperature predictions are from urban/airport areas and there will be at least two days of low temperatures (usually colder the second night). If you look at the forecast map (https://www.weather.gov/forecastmaps) you’ll see the high (H) pressure systems to our north, north-west and lows (L) to the south and southeast are setting us up for a cold air mass to move SE into the Florida peninsula (Fig. 1). If you click on the Short Range Forecasts you’ll note some details and potential weather for south Florida (e.g., Friday, clear but cold/ice potential along our coast and then Sat., likely chance of rain).

Forecasts indicate that it could even get down to the mid 50s in the Bahamas during this freeze.

When I moved into Coral Springs it was a hot week and one of the first things I did after moving in was to make an outdoor "above ground" fire pit / fireplace. I'm not sorry I did... it reminds me of the country home we had "up north" with a fireplace. :-)

Regards,

Good luck all. This sounds like a nightmare situation for zone pushers. I’m always on edge during the winter season here on the west coast. SoCA is overdue for a bad cold front to roll through and challenge some of our more delicate subtropicals. Wishing you all the best through the weekend.

Could be worse! The positives are 1) it looks like this will likely be the last real threat of the season for most zone pushers down here and 2) it won't last very many hours/days.

I am in land enough that there is a real chance of getting below freezing (don't know for how long).  Its going to be bad, or optimistically, not good.

Very windy yesterday with low humidity. Lost a few leaves on a TM Jackfruit due to cold and wind yesterday but the fallen leaves looked normal and healthy.
Might lose some more today since it was even colder and still windy last night.
Low of 34 this morning at my location at the West edge of Cape Coral near Matlacha.
No frost on roofs or cars in my immediate area. Hoping my Maha Chanok  and Edgar mangos don't drop their early crop. Lost a few guppies in an outdoor aquarium because water temp got down to 45 but there were survivors. Thankful for my microclimate. One strange thing I have noticed about my microclimate, the tops of palms and bananas here almost always have a little wind movement even if no breeze is felt on the ground. Rare for there to be no air movement. Sort of like a sea breeze near a beach. Coldest night the last 7 years at my location.
Wondering how cold Pine Island got last night....

I didn't measure but the wind never stopped out here on PI. Definitely no frost.

I believe that!  I don't think we got into the 30's, but we're only 2 miles from the ocean.  It was 41 at 4:00AM.
