Pleasant tasting Pitangatuba does exist.
I had one. My toddler killed it.
I purchased it as a seedling from eBay seller. Seller name is 9water.
It was 4 years old when it first bore fruit. Only 2 fruits, but they were big, lot or flesh, juicy, sweet with just a correct amount of tanginess. It had tropical flavor and apricot after taste. It was so good that i transfferred the tree into the ground, but my son pulled it out without me realized it until the next day.
I want to buy another seedling from 9water, but it took 4 years to bear fruit...

I had great ones, super sweet from Mimosa. I ate from all the plants that were producing and the entire batch had sweet fruit. I don't think it's so rare to get good ones. It seems that if they sit around in the hot sun on the ground they really improve!

The seeds germinate easily but slowly and seeds are not so expensive. Then you'll have a few to taste test when they fruit. Still have yet to try one lol.

I have a fruiting pitangatuba from 9waters and it tastes the same as some others I received from a forum member.
