Boca Cempedak

Is anyone else growing this one? Excalibur had sold them as seedlings a few years back. I still have one growing in a pot and it's starting to flower now. I was wondering if anymore information has turned up.

Not I but definitely wanna see a picture? Probably tough to judge age but how long have you cared for it and in a pot?

Plant that baby! Did you protect it at all through the recent cold snap? A friend Miguel in Puerto Rico also got one of these when Excalibur was selling them and he thought it was a Chempejak.

Is he on these forums? I wonder if he still has his tree.  All the trees i saw planted in the ground declined quick. I was going to pot it up into a 25 gallon it keeps tipping over now.. How can you tell a Cempedak from a Chempejak?? I remember picking them out at Excaliburs, Richard had two big rows both labeled Chempedaks one row every single tree was dead the other, the 'bocas' a bunch had sprouted and died and a few looked like they might pull thru (maybe 10 out of 50) I grabbed a few of those for echo.  I planted one there it died, I grabbed one for myself and we sold the rest.

Cempedek have hairs on the undersides of the leaves and new growth, I have yet to see a cempejak that carries this trait. I also think that looks like a cemepejak and not a pure cempe

I agree that it is not a proper champedek. It could be a champejak.

I have champedak seedlings from Han sen Durian,Ch35,Ch38,Ch 38 is the most cold sensitive new growth had burn,Ch35 no burn,Durian champedak no burn also most vigorous growing 8 feet.
Champedak seedlings very hairy now i"m also growing champejak from Han Sen and they very in vigor and hairiness alot.One is has a fruit spike i noticed 2 days ago!
Aarons looks like more Jak blood in the genes but it is still very interesting.I hope it can hold that fruit.

Agree with prior comments here’s some pics of full cempedak I took this am, these are last survivors of the 40 or 50 seeds I germinated from a seller in Borneo. They took the recent cold snap no problem uncovered where we had a brief frost, it could be these were hardiest seedlings and why they survived this long. Not exactly sure what makes them so finicky vs jackfruit and why I’m weary about planting out. Have noticed they are more susceptible to iron deficiency vs jackfruit, the chempedak have hairs and leaves are not glossy, they feel like brittle paper to me.

I don’t know about cold so much but Jakfruit is a very tough tree that tolerates strong, hot winds that champedek would never survive.

I don't think your memory is wrong, I think Richard sold them as Boca cempedak but they're likely cempejak. I just realized it wasn't Miguel in PR, it was Juan Miranda in PR. I'll have to check in with him about his tree but I do remember he thought it was actually a cempejak when he got it.

Is that true? I remember laughing reading alot of his posts but dont remember anyone mentioning him passing.

Coconut Jack was alive for a few years at least after dropping off the forum.
Some of the most highly entertaining fruit write ups this forum has ever seen.

Here is an example of the difference between cempedak and jackfruit. They do look quite similar but the cempedak has lots of fine hairs.
