How's Your SoCal Lychee and Longan Trees Doing This Year?
« on: March 16, 2022, 02:40:59 PM »
Anyone getting flowers on their Lychee trees now in SoCal?

So far, none of my longan and Lychee trees have flowers yet. If you have flowers starting, please post some photos.

Interesting. None of my branches on the large Brewster has any flowers yet. I may need to climb up on the roof and take a closer look at he branches.

My longan just started to flush and has new branches, it may be flowers but can't tell yet.

No flowers this year for lychees. It's taking a break from last years  bumper crop. Longans have a good 70% blooms

Nice longan flowers. I guess some of my longans have flowers also. Just took a few photos, wasn't sure if it was new leaves or flowers.

Dang Brad, that was fast! I feel like it was just yesterday that you showed me to them just after going in ground.

It seems like every type of trees had great blooms this year here Kaz.  It didnt seem that cold but something about our weather pattern caused everything to bloom well.  Even a flavor king pluot 400hrs of chill tree had a massive bloom.

Yes, sure sounds like it. My Brewster is still flushing new leaves so I don't see any fruits yet. Mine tree seems to be about 1 month behind many people's lychee tree. I did notice my plumeria flowers were blooming last year from July to December which is very unusual to have flowers for that long on the tree.

My thai longans took a big hit from the Santa Ana winds - half of the canopy got blown away.

The wind pretty much completely defoliated my jabos in the front yard.

xshen, Wow, nice looking lychee trees. I don't know why my large Brewster tree does not flower until later in the year.

I did notice my longans are starting to have some flower buds growing.

Try girdling one or two branches next year to test and see if that will get them to bloom on time.

I did notice some of the branches I planned to air layer (so I cut out the bark) did have fruits earlier on those branches than the rest of my tree. I better finish the air layers since those branches are getting pretty fat where I cut the bark. Surprised to see that the branches did not die off yet.

Thanks Tony. I have no set fertilizer schedule, pretty much fall and spring...I threw a bunch of compost on it a few weeks ago along with some citrus and avocado fertilizer, and I throw my dirty fish tank water on it after I clean the tank.

Biew kiew longan is blooming again after heavy pruning two years ago.  Last year it did not flower.

Sri chompoo  longan flower panicles are just coming in

Sweetheart lychee panicles emerged early this year but started to bloom about a week or two ago.

Hope everybody is doing well.

Very nice trees.

Thanks sc4001992. Just noticed my Kaimana started to bloom, this would be the first year it is blooming. Brewster and Mauritious are growing vegetatively.

Hawkfish007, wow, very nice to see the Kaimana with blooms, you will need to post some photos of the fruits later.
My Brewster isn't showing any blooms, only vegetative growth as well.

Ken, your longan and lychee trees are looking good. You will need to give a taste test comparison of your longans.
The Sweetheart sure is getting lots of flowers again.
