I put one of mine into the ground last year here in Tampa.  It made it through our coldest weather this year which was  about 33ºF.

It is now about 3-1/2 feet tall and has filled out nicely.  It finally has buds on it this year.

Hoping that I will get a few fruit this season.

Are you watering extra to encourage the growth and blooms? I have a 10ft one that’s maybe 7yrs old or more and It didn’t put out a single flower last year. Had dozens the years before.

For the last couple of months I've made sure they were watered often and weekly fertilized with Miracle Grow at regular strength.

I'm under the impression that plants from Florida are so acclimated to such a favorable environment, that when they get shipped to us colder (maybe drier) climates, the plants are essentially being sent to purgatory. I think plants that are grown in harsher environments seem to perform better and take re-acclimation to new environments much easier.  This is based off of some papers &books  I've read about plant physiology, development and cold tolerance as well as personal experience.

In the Winter... they stayed in a cool, but never freezing greenhouse.
They rest of the year they get full sun.
Never let them dry out... and don't forget to fertilize them regularly.
