Wanted: Grafted Abiu in S. Florida
« on: June 07, 2022, 06:25:00 PM »
Anyone have a grafted Abiu here in SoFlo? I bought one 2 years ago but it wasn't ready for sale and promptly died.

It's not easy to find them at nice sized trees in nurseries.
Even harder to find them grafted.
Occasionally zhpp varieties them (I'm not sure about if it was grafted though)
I'd check with Lara, he usually carries rarer things

Thanks. Checked the nurseries still in operation here. Many have closed. Getting harder to find rare fruits locally.

I've heard this fruits in 2-3 years under ideal conditions. I have some E4 seedlings, let me know if interested.

My experience, seedlings are true type. 2-3 years to bear fruit

Last summer, Trees N More had 7 gallon grafted abiu...Unfortunately the cultivar wasn't named...just a seedling. Still, a great deal I wish I purchased them.

Yes, seedlings of E4 Abiu would work for me ( or even seeds). Thanks Ed

Lara had some listed last night.  You may want to check them.

Check with Leaph Michaelson in west palm.  I am not sure if he is on the forum but you can find him on FB.

Thanks to those that replied. I have a few generic Abiu seeds started now, but was very excited to hear about the March 2022 introduction of the E4 abiu which seems true to seed. The grafted Abiu I purchased 2 years ago was from Leaph in Lake Worth, but I am locked out of Facebook for over a year now lol. Leaph warned me the grafted tree was not hardened off yet, but in my zeal to acquire this fruit I insisted I buy it. Oh well. The search will continue...

I also got a couple plants from him with very young air layers that died soon after... those were guavas though. His prices are good, so sells out too fast.

Totally off my posts topic Satya, but can you rent the propane fire blaster to treat the wood for the beds I want to build? When the rains come, the front yard gets waterlogged and all that nice mulch and amendments gets washed into the driveway! Thinking a nice 4x4 bed to raise and contain the rich soil will make my production excellent. Thanks.

anyone with a garden grill will have a propane tank, I borrowed one from my next door neighbor and just refilled it for him at a gas station once I was done.
