Just had my first Cherimoya in Barcelona, Spain

Just got back from a trip by boat to Europe.  In Barcelona visited the Ramblas area and ran into the Mercat de La Boqueria. It's a large public market in the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona, Catalonya, Spain.

Saw a fruit stand with Cherimoya, Nispero and Rambutan.  Took a Cherimoya back to the hotel and had it for dinner with a baguette of Jamon Serrano.  Wonderful!   Liked the Cheri a lot but the wife sorta freaked out on the big black seeds.  Said it was ok.

I knew someone would ask that.  No, unfortunately --- sorta ran out of Euros.  Had to run around the streets looking for an ATM to pay for the taxi back to the hotel.  Wanted to try the Nispero also.

Had some rams last year at one of my rare fruit club meetings.  Liked them a lot as well as the Mangosteens for a buck each.

It was Royal Carribean.  Nine days at sea then Lisbon Portugal, Barcelona Spain, Nice France, Rome, Livorno/Florence Italy then back to debark in Barcelona for 2 days in a hotel.  Flew home.   It was great!
Managed to hook up with Pancrazio in Livorno and we had a great meal at a local restaurant in Livorno.  Talked plants and food the whole time.

Wow, what a market.  That is a must do market.
Few things give me a better feel for a culture than going to a locals market.  Bourdain has gotten it right.
