I was able to open it and log in a couple weeks ago after they had sent me a birthday email.

I was also able to search around the site looking for some info and getting some hits.

OK — HTH

That is the worst site ever. Between the slow load speeds, site crashing for days at a time and ads, ads, ads. It is horrible. This site needs a banana section so bananas.org can die.

Bananas.org has been down more than up for me, once in a while I can log into the site, and then I can't log back in for days or weeks, I gave up on that site, it is a shame cause that site has soooo much good info about growing bananas, I imagine the frequent posters on that site abandoned it or just don't post frequently since the site is so glitchy.

Same here, up, down. I think they're having a server / hosting problem, that or a newbie is trying to maintain it :-)

Is there enough Banana interest to make a Banana section? We made a Citrus Section after one of the Citrus forums had issues.

We've never monetized this site because we hate ads as much as everyone else.

This is the only hobby I have where a live forum still exists, many of my other hobbies forums were killed years ago by Facebook groups, however now nearly all the Facebook groups are also dead and I have no idea where everyone goes now. This forum is such a great resource Facebook groups never has the same search ability and a lot of info is lost. Such a shame many of my other hobbies forums were kiled by Facebook and now Facebook has been killed and now there is no modern info anywhere anymore very sad

Glad that this site has never been inundated with ads.

I'm not sure whether a banana section would be a good addition. The one many people seem to clamor for is a mango section.

It is hard to say if a banana forum here would be successful. It depends on the future reliability of bananas.org. Right now that site goes down for days on end. It really is a shame.

I didn't know Facebook groups were becoming barren.  I have never had Facebook and over time I have noticed that much of the users on the Citrus section have disappeared, I assumed it was to Facebook.  I came here from the old citrus growers forum migration so it is a bit sad to see.

Maybe they are going to Reddit subforums?

When it is up Bananas.org has some good resources, particularly their bananawiki. The site is so slow and clunky. Really a shame as they have good info archived and many photos. Would love it if this forum created a banana subsection.

Not as far as I'm concerned. I'm able to find any banana info I need right here.

I’ve been a member there for a few years and haven’t been able to get on the site consistently for a few months as well. Lots of great information there and people who like to share their experiences. Much like the people here. I’d be up for a banana section here.

I’d be up for a banana subforum as well.

Is there enough Banana interest to make a Banana section? We made a Citrus Section after one of the Citrus forums had issues.

We've never monetized this site because we hate ads as much as everyone else.

Apart from many similar groups losing members, siphoned off to other sites like FaceBook, etc., apart from that, a site may not survive if the remaining members do not continue to ask and to answer questions, which tend to keep a group alive.  I've noticed this happen to more than a handful of groups. (One other thing that definitely keeps me coming back to TFF regularly is that there are no ads populating the pages and/or replies which I find intrusive, destracting me from the questions and answers.)

We're lucky here on TFF that there are so many active members who pose and answer each others' questions. As long as that remains in sway TFF should remain healthy and active for many years.

PS – I am sure that if a Banana sub-section of TFF were to be set up that it might thrive, but only if it remained active with sufficient activity and interest.  If not, then random posts and replies re bananas posted to the existing list here just as they are now done, should suffice.

OK — Just FWIW . . . .

The people from the old forum (which i was a member of) split between here and the citrus growers2 board because we didn't have an alternative set up. Facebook doesn't have any good citrus info with the exception of Tom Mclendon who is active. But you can tell that the people responding to his posts don't know that much. I think now it's quiet because we're in between grafting season and harvest season for everyone except the FL and California growers..So not much happening other than watching the trees grow..

This is the mango section.  ;D

I agree with this sentiment. Mango is by far the most common topic in general discussion, enough to warrant its own subsection. Bananas can remain in general discussion.

Bananas.org is still down!  It has been a week. It’s crazy. I don’t know if any other websites that have this much down time.  Crazy.
