Someone gave me a seed for one of these a few years back.
The very slow growing tree is now about 11 inches tall and I'm wondering if I need to find it a mate or it is self fertile?
From reading I'm suspecting I will be giving this to my daughter as it may be at least another 10 years before it flowers.
They are slow growing to begin with and speed up a bit as they get larger. Mine started out in a 4-in. pot and got moved up to a 2 gal and later to a 5 gal pot. It was growing into a perfect Xmas tree shape and then suddenly its leaves statred turning yellow and all fell off. It stayed that way for some six months and when the rainy season started it began growing again near its bottom and later from higher up. I had thought it was dead so it starting up again was a complete surprise to me.
It had gotten to about 3.5 ft tall and Im hoping now that it will take off again. So be patient with yours and move it up into a larger pot from time to time.
To answer your other question, I believe that this species is self-fertile. But maybe one of our other members knows more about that.
