Nephelium lappaceum as Nephelium cuspidatum rootstock
« on: September 17, 2013, 07:44:35 PM »
I have a very small rambutan plant (thanks to dongeorgio), and although it is not old enough to graft, I was wondering if anyone knows if it is compatible as rootstock for nephelium cuspidatum, the giant rambutan? Has anyone successfully grafted these two, or even is growing giant rambutan?

If i were you, i would focus on keeping it alive over the winter before thinking about grafting, like i'm doing with my little seedlings right now  ;D

I know pulasan and rambutan are not compatible. but that's all i know.  :-[

This is not what I am worried about it dying during the winter, it is healthy and strong, just a bit slow growing. Can anybody else comment? Besides the grafting, giant rambutan is a bit enigmatic, I would like to know some more about it, such as fruit quality, tree quality, growing, ect.

email the Hawaii USDA research station.  They list this as being available.
