Avocado seedlings can, and do produce good fruit
« on: October 21, 2013, 05:42:27 PM »
2nd year of harvesting avocado grown from a seedling: large size, rich creamy flesh.  It's a keeper!  Seeds planted years ago for rootstock, this one is not going to be grafted over.

True......but insistently so.  A seedling may never fruit or may wait 20 years before it decides to drop some sporadic fruiting on you.  But yes......you can get decent fruit from a seedling.  If your a gambler.....planting seedlings is the only way to go. Much more exhilarating when you succeed.

J...nice job on the seedling avo. You need to give it a "catchy" name....something that includes Nipomo. You can make your fortune. haha.

Congratulations on the quality fruit!   How many years ago was it planted?  Do you remember what variety the seed came from?

I have some seedlings among my grafted avocado.  You've given me hope!

This tree was about 15 years old.  Origin of seed was open pollinated Bacon.  Obviously not Bacon-like.
