My plant fruited this year. Only a couple fruits so far. Nice flavor but yes, very small.

In my experience jackfruit seedling trees are more precocious than grafted trees and are much more vigorous.

yeah, my stuff is entirely too close. dont use me as an example. I have collecting issues ;D.
my motto is "worry about it later"  :D

I just tell myself Im helping preserve the species. It wasnt too long ago that getting seeds out of Brazil was nearly impossible so I know it could happen again.

The abiu has been the only one to fruit so far.

The fruit is supposed to be excellent. Ive tried a few times but they never germinated. I know a couple of folks have seedlings going now. They are from Caatinga which gets a dry period for over half a year, so I think they need extra care to keep them from excess moisture.

is anyone here currently growing Arka Puneet? I havent got to try that yet.

Its a great tasting fruit. Definitely top tier. Very juicy. The tree I saw was loaded with fruit but gets very bad bacterial black spot. If you have an issue with MBBS near you youre gonna have to spray.

I think there were two types going around. One from Marcos and one from Miguel in Portugal. I believe Kevin Jones said his tasted great and was from Miguel. Nate at Wildlands Farm is growing one he really likes but Im not sure his source but I believe it was Marcos. I have 4 sweet uvaia seedlings from Marcos all started flowering this year. I have 2 x E pyriformis seedlings next too them flowering to and they look exactly alike. Hopefully there is a winner in the bunch.

Ive only seen one on cherimoya but montana and glabra are the standard for grafting this.

i got my first fruit from one of my seedlings. These came from Richard in French Guiana. I have a regular type and one he calls 'Top Ubaia'. All my seedlings have started flowering but only one put out a single fruit. pleasant taste but just had a brix of 11. hopefully improves with time and maybe some of the others are more variable. They really seems to like part-shade when young.

Very cool.  What would you recommend as rootstock for these rarer annonas?  A. Montana seems to be what everyone is recommending.  Our tree just doesn't want to flower even though it had a fruit on it last year when we bought it.  I'll have to do some research in hopes of grafting some of these rare annonas next spring.
Thanks for sharing, Mike

I use montana on most and also cherimoya seems to work very well. glabra works on some but I've also noticed more incompatibilities with it over time with certain species.

Just wanted to drop a pic of this fruit. I sold a bunch of scions from this over the past year. My budwood originally came from GRIN. It was listed as Annona sp. After talking to some Annona experts in Brazil they think its a natural hybrid between (nutans x cornifolia). The budwood was listed as being from Bolivia where both of these species are found. Fruit can hang on the tree days after it turns orange and soft and will continue to get sweeter. Skin is so thin you dont even notice when eating. It has a mild sweet flavor.

I would plant a Cecilove instead of Sweet Tart. Extremely similar flavor and Cecilove is a more compact disease resistant tree.

Dang, just when I thought I had "enough" cultivars....
40-17 sounds gosh darn amazing.
Thanks, Mr. Mike.

I need to add M-10 and 40-17 to the list too.

The top three for me so far have been  M-17, M-10, and 40-17. The 40-17 is very rich and a bit citrusy. even a little bit chalky when underripe like Zinc but still excellent. M-17 was similar to an intense Edward and M-10 similar to a Fruit Punch with Dot like intensity.

40-17 was excellent last year too. Its a smaller fruit though similar in size to Gary.
