I'm glad I have a Novak scion flowering heavily now, on my cocktail tree!

its supposed to be real early, but not as early as expected by the gentleman who selected it.

Still supposed to be large and delicious, and early!

I will let u know if my little graft holds fruit.

is there reason to believe that loquat varieties for central and northern FL  wouldn't fruit in south florida...chill hours for novak, torrey?

what loquats are you growing in south florida that you'd recommend?

I have read oliver, champagne, christmas, and bradenton are good...any others?

Simon

Novak is a good fruit, low acid, orange flesh and nice sized...seems to fruit earlier than others....

Feluchi a variety from Spain that makes massive fruit...has not flowered yet!!  It's been about 3yrs now and I've had 2 grafted trees....I'm starting to wonder when this variety will finally fruit.

Avri, an Israeli type, is by far the best...definitely the sweetest loquat I've tasted....I don't usually eat loquats skin and all, but this variety is an exception...taste was very much like apricot...fruit are medium sized, not huge, not small...also has a firm flesh...so is good for shipping.

(I grafted about 10 avri trees....need to graft a bunch more after the next crop)

I have a Christmas, and it flowers profusely but has not set fruit in 3 years. The first year it was in a container and it had lots albeit small fruit but now it blooms and the blooms die. I don't know if it needs cross pollination or if it's self compatible or if I need more bees. It's a cute little tree but I don't plant for ornamental value.

I've tried several loquats locally but no telling what variety they are. Most nurserys here sell seedling loquats. There a guy buy the name of John Panzarella in Lake Jackson Tx that sells a grafted loquat he calles Genoa. Interesting story how he came across this variety. I recently purchased one from him and it will planted in yard when my new house is completed this Dec. Heres the link.

Mine is only a couple years old but same story - it has flowered profusely twice now and not set a single fruit. It's in a full sun spot so not sure what the story is. Both of us in Coral Springs too.
