Hi Tom, do the squirrels eat the unripe fruits?

I don’t think they do. Experienced members please correct me if I am wrong.
In my case, I think the squirrels were attracted by the fruity aroma from the flowers. Or they were just just doing a fruit recon.

In my experience here in swf, varmints don’t bother with fruit unless it is dead ripe ready to fall of tree. Never had any critter problems. However, raccoons, rodents will have feast on ripened fruits.

Grafted “Banana Crunch” from Lara farms pictured at about 1 year in ground. Anyone fruited or tasted this newish cultivar?

Hoping to get some info on banana crunch as well.  I'm assuming it is a crunchy cultivator by the name. What is the season?  I have the opportunity to purchase this variety.  Hopefully it stacks up against the red varieties.

All
I know is banana crunch and banana crush are the same cultivar. Julian Lara knows more of it’s origen, that would be a good place to start.

I had a Gold Nugget and it got HUGE which wouldn't have been bad except for the face that the roots got under my patio and neighbor's house and before it could do damage I chopped it.

My Bangkok lemon produces well, no invasive roots but the fruit is bland. It may get the chop also.

Is Cochin a tasty jackfruit? I like the tree hight supposedly can be productive and is also easy peal. Is there a better choice? Also have a seller close to me that has Black Gold, don't think it has either of those characteristics.

This is jak season, you should get around and taste some cultivars to see what you like including Cochin to see what you like. Many cultivars are dwarfish in nature and easily pruned to size your needs. There are outstanding nurseries in your area that may likely even have some ready to taste to help you decide.

I bought a slice of jackfruit in an asian store(here in europe) which reminded me of durian. the smell and taste was much weaker than durian, but definitely noticeable.
is this variety related or due to stage of ripeness?

Orange crush

The orange crush was the best Jak I ever ate. My buddy also agreed it was the best. Other friend said they like em softer but it was perfect to me. It was 9lbs. I will judge the peel after I prepare more of them. I've not tried a vast majority of the cultivars but I have had bad jackfruit experience and can say all others were mediocre ,except the bad one, compared.
The black gold fruits are humongous but not ready.

Great news  Tim,
They certainly are distinctive trees and foliage making it a fantastic landscape specimen. I have heard flavor profile is very close to Mai 3. You can expect fruit qualities including color will even get better in seasons to come. Very impressive for the first fruit. Not sure what you meant about judging the “peel”?

Inspired by a Dr. Richard Campbell Jackfruit pruning video on YouTube, I embarked on a project to lower this tree by ½ its height. Took 5 years, selecting large branch and leader pruning while keeping it's fruit production.

Hanging on the tree since February 2nd, found it on the ground this morning. Checked it Yesterday afternoon,  didn't smell a ripe aroma.

I'm currently growing 4 seedlings - all in containers in a greenhouse but this is my first go of it with Jackfruit. I'm looking at possibly using the seedlings for root stock down the line but for now just practice/interest in growing the plant itself. It'd be great to track down a couple interesting varieties to grow, I've only tasted store-bought which reminded me of some type of chewing gum that I can't quite place.

JuicyFruit gum is supposedly jackfruit flavored, I bet that is it

I just got interested in Jackfruits since I got a few trees last week.

Has anyone tried to root cuttings of Jackfruit and succeeded?

The tree I got is an unknown variety, the guy had 3 adult size trees, he said the current fruiting one is 11 yrs old, then the other two were 15 & 16 yrs old and they fruits as well. Since these trees were getting to large for his side yard area he wanted to remove 2 of the trees (in ground). This tree is growing in SoCal zone 10b.

I transplanted them in pots, I hope they survive, here's the fruit on the tree he is keeping.
