First imbe flowers
« on: July 11, 2024, 08:57:01 AM »
My largest imbe seedling is flowering for the first time at about 2-3ft tall in a half gal container.  I doubt these will result in fruit, but maybe next year.  I know they can be hermaphrodite or dioecious.

And a young praying mantis hanging out on it too

Awesome, brian! Indeed, I too would like to know how long it took from seed to flower? Just had three sprout here recently:

I gave a seedling to a friend and their Imbe flowered and set fruit 3 years from seed. Also it was the only plant within miles and it set fruit on its own. Where my seedlings were all male or female.

I am not sure exactly how old mine are as I got them from different sources.  The flowering one was from a forum member and mentioned to bea hermaphrodite type but I am not sure if that is a heritable thing or just luck with these.  My next largest one is nearly as big and so it may flower soon also.

I'll post a picture when the flowers open

Well I am not sure of the female flower is still receptive but I tried transferring pollen.  No worry, not expecting fruit now but is very nice to see both flowers on same tree.
