Looking Forward

Of all the trees you have that haven't fruited, which do you look forward to taste the most?

For me it's the Zill 40-26 mango.

For me, it's probably eugenia multicostata, even though I know it's going to be super sour and not that tasty. That was one of the true "rare" fruits I first saw online that got me into collecting and have been searching for seeds or seedlings for some time. My plant graduated to a 10g this year and is growing well.

Behind that, I have paulista grafts from fruiting trees that I am excited about, and many, many eugenia species that are just seedlings now.

Garcinia Hombroniana / Seashore Mangosteen.  I have six or so healthy trees that are at least 5ft tall each, hoping for flowers soon.  I've never tried the fruit, just missed the season when I visited the Fruit and Spice Park.

Also my fern leaf guava.  Not sure when it will set flowers but it is 3ft tall and very healthy.

Looking forward to tasting my biribá, which flowered for the first time last
summer (2023).  Hoping that it will maybe set a fruit or two this season.

All of my unfruited garcinias and eugenias, especially ones like e. pisiforms, e. burkartiana, and e. minutifolia.

The more I think about it, the majority of my trees I am anxious to try (got a lot of stuff not yet sampled). Some are more hyped, so higher hopes, but probably equally curious about all of them.

Second the Painter’s Cherilata. I’m going to give my grafts one more year before letting them hold fruit.  I have a Brazilian Milk fruit (C. taguahyensis) that’s about to flower for the first time, so that’s exciting.  Also looking forward to trying some of the new Eugenia introductions and a Myrciaria pilosa that has to be getting close. SpiceZee nectaplum went into the ground this year so fingers crossed I get some fruit next year. Every other stone fruit hybrid has been off the charts delicious.

For me, I'm most excited for my Morello Sour Cherry tree and My Greengage Plum tree to fruit. The Morello should fruit next year, and the greengage in 2 years.
I also have some abiu seedlings, the tallest about 3-4 inches high. Really proud of them, but I await the time they first fruit, hopefully in the next 5 years  ;D

Too many to list. Numerous mangos, lychee, longon, starfruit, citrus etc that all refuse to fruit or are too young to fruit. I did get some sweetheart lychee and pretty decent apple and pecan set this year so there is that going for me. Once again, I have to prune my ice cream bean way the hell back as its probably 30' wide and starting to shade other trees and yet no fruit after almost 10 years. So out of all my trees, that might be my most anticipated due to time involved at this point since my African Sausage tree is finally flowering regularly after 8 years and even has at least one "sausage" hanging.

Jamaica Mamey Sapote!  Bought it in the spring from Lara in a 1 gallon pot. Recently up-potted to 3 gallon and hope to put it in the ground soon. From there it will be a long wait until I savor that first fruit - 4 years? Longer?

It's actually not looking so great, the leaves are a pale green color and it's hardly grown. Just one flush of growth that I can remember. Brown spots on the lower leaves. Any ideas? I have already lost several 1 gallon plants I bought from Lara Farms.

Prolly throw some osmocote on it. Be careful to use well draining potting soil. Mamey are intolerant of standing water.

Now after TS Debby slid past us in the Gulf a couple days ago, today (TUES) my
lawn guy found two 'Mexicola Grande' avocados on the ground, which must've
been knocked down by some of the gusty winds that we had.

One is already fully dark purple and is 4 x 2-1/4 inches, and the other is mostly
still green but starting to color up from the stem end.  It's smaller at just shy of
4 inches long by 2-1/8th wide.

The green one is still hard but the purple one is feeling hard but slightly less so
than the green one so hopefully it will ripen up on my kitchen counter in a few
days. (Not entirely certain how the green one will do at ripening.)

So, for the OP who began this thread, this avocado now is the fruit I'm the most
looking forward to trying! (But I haven't forgotten the biribá I posted about earlier
in this thread.)

Halla-Loo!

Thanks for the tip, I will put it in a better draining pot with a better draining mix today.

I like to brag that I have the 'perfect climate' for growing fruit. I receive 700 chill hours, which gets my far in the world of temperate fruits, and my local temperature record is -1.1C (30F). Abiu is hardy to -2, so I should be good.
Lucky me..

Spell check changed Abiu to Ago on me. Looks like you figured out what I was trying to say, though. I would have to agree that you have crazy good weather there. You have the perfect conditions to breed low chill fruits. I take my hat off to you sir.
