Guava recommendations- soft and juicy vs hard/crunchy.
« on: August 21, 2024, 01:18:36 AM »
I’m looking for a soft juicy guava. Not the hard crunchy apple/pear type. Sweeter the better.

I see Florida, mexican, Indonesian, Vietnamese, white/pink and so on.

What should I look for?

Preferably one that comes somewhat close to true so I can just buy some seeds and grow it out.

I already have Barbie pink or something like that which I never tasted but is fruiting now.

I have some kind of pink guava (true guava - psidium guajava), I am not sure what type as it was mislabelled, but it looks similar to the common Ruby Supreme type.  Mine is a clone so I am not sure how true they are from seed nor how long it takes to fruit from seed.

It is soft when ripe, juicy and sweet.  I recommend it.  I don't like crunch guavas, either.   You might also like cattley guavas, both red and yellow types are nice.  Cattley guavas are commonly grown from seed and fruit quickly.

This keeps coming up but I can’t find seeds for “Mexican cream” just yellow/white Mexican guava.

I can see why they aren’t sold as “mexican cream” if they don’t come true to seed but I read they come
Pretty close so I’d by those seeds.

Do you happen to have some seeds from a Mexican cream guava for sale?

i think the little yellow guys are all called "mexican cream" i dont think that it is a specific variety. all the tiny yellow guavas i have had here or in mexico have been roughly the same, sweet and creamy

Ha - ok then. I’ll grab some seeds next time I see seeds for
yellow Mexican guava and hopefully it turns out alright.

Thanks!
