I've unfortunately dealt with a lot of people like Adam. I was lucky enough to foresee the potential for trouble and only paid him a deposit on a multi-grafted tree. I am certain that the excuse in his recent e-mail is not accurate, whether loosely based on truth or completely fabricated.

I was initially heartened to see the e-mail in my inbox a few days ago and the refund today. However, almost immediately after I received an e-mail from the Alabama Office of the Attorney General requesting that I confirm that I had received the refund he promised he would deliver. Although the initial letter from them months ago indicated that they were not going to investigate further, perhaps they received enough complaints to move forward. Regardless, I suspect I would not have received a refund had they not been involved.

They asked that I have any other parties who would like a refund from Adam contact them directly. Please message me if you would like the contact information.

I planted this last weekend in ground, it was purchased from Greenlife nursery here. It lost a large branch in our monsoon last month. It was about this size. I've been leaning on its a rooted cutting. but Im not sure.

Huh. Did you get that this year? A couple of months ago I dropped by Greenlife after a visit to their neighbor (worm farm) and they had kei apples but the pots were marked male and female when I was there. They were definitely air-layered or rooted cuttings.

Hammer 524, sorry to hear about your experience, it's so different than mine.  The time I was sent an incorrect tree, he didn't ask me to return it and just refunded me within a couple days.

Have you tried planting out a bunch of loquat seeds to select for a better tree for your growing conditions?  I have noticed my Peluche tree doesn't seem to like full sun even in my milder climate.

I planted a grafted Peluche tree I got from Flying Fox in a full sun spot and the young leaves that have not fully hardened off get wilted looking mid-day.  I let a fig growing next to it get large enough to provide some shade and it's growing much better.  The Peluche branch grafted on my mature Big Jim is the same, it's the only variety that seems sensitive.  Once the leaves harden off, they seem okay.

I wonder if a variety that does really well in Florida is adapted to more humidity.  Do you have a partly shaded spot to plant the Honeyquat?  I hope you have better luck with it than the Peluche.

From all the interviews I've heard, Julian is always on the lookout for great fruit varieties.  He and his nursery have a long standing reputation, seems unlikely he would market and sell something that wasn't good.  Anytime I've had an issue with anything I've ordered, he's given me a full refund.

Whether something will taste as good grown outside of Florida under different conditions is a whole other consideration.

Great varieties can me found from "just another seedling."   I'm planting out hundreds of seedlings myself, and Kaz found what he considers his best varieties from seeds. 

From his description he's selling grafted trees from the fruiting variety he tasted.

CenCalArt, I have a couple of guavas that I don't see on your list. I have a mexican cream, Queen guava (this one you can get at Mimosa nursery), Thai seedless, and golden honey moon. How is your peruvian white? I've never hear of that one.

hammer524, have you gotten any fruit off of your queen guava? I recently bought this one too. It sounds good but I haven't tasted it yet.

GrowerA, where did you obtain that honey kiss guava?

There are many varieties and I'm on the look out for the best ones. Kind of addicting haha.

Hey Marc. If you make the drive up to LA county, I can show you around a bit. I'm within a 5 miles of Champa, Mimosa(Rosemead) and a few other spots. When did you plan on coming out here, because Champa is having a 50% off everything Labor Day sale that ends 9/11. Champanursery.com is updated pretty regularly, but not everything they have is listed. Looks like they'll have "Cherilata" (Annona Cherimola x Annona reticulata) in stock this month. I got a few things growing too if you're interested.

Ong nursery is supposedly amazing. San Diego area only open on weekends. Pricey but good.

Los Angeles area check out Mimosa nursery.
