« on: October 16, 2012, 07:07:08 AM »
Hello everyone.

Looking for some seeds of the Dwarf everbearing black mulberry tree.

Would like to see how they do indoor in a Danish livingroom.

Kind regards Anders.

I've got the "Dwarf Everbearing" mulberry but the fruits have always been seedless, as far as I can tell.  It could be that I lack a pollinator, or the seeds are so small that I've never noticed them...  I'll have to dissect rather than eat my next ripe fruit.  They are easy to start from cuttings, but those are harder to ship internationally.

If given enough light, the dwarf everbearing mulberry does very well as an indoor plant; they take pruning very well and can be kept at any size you want.

Kevin is correct, fruits are seedless.  Propagation is by cuttings or air layers.

How is the taste on these?

I'm not great at describing flavors, but I like them- they have a somewhat blackberry-like flavor to me, and while the fruit are smaller than a blackberry, they don't have the annoying blackberry seeds.  I do prefer the Pakistani mulberry in flavor, but they need to get large before fruiting and aren't hardy in my area.  The dwarf everbearing mulberry can start producing fruit when cuttings are only 6" tall, and it seems the more you torture it with being trimmed back, the more it fruits-- so you can keep it as a small but highly productive little shrub.

If unprotected outside here, I never get a ripe fruit- the birds will always get them just before they are fully ripe.

Is the fruit on the sweet or tart side?

Is the fruit on the sweet or tart side?

I find it a pleasing combination of sweet and tart, just like a good blackberry, and like a blackberry it gets sweeter as it ripens.  When I grow it inside the fruits are sweet and delicious if I leave them for 2-3 days after turning black.  Outside they disappear when they start to turn reddish-purple- apparently that's sweet enough for the birds.

I have several small  trees, approximately 12 inches or so in height. They are still young but well established and real healthy. Let me know if interested.

Just found this on ebay and wondering whether it is scam or what if the dwarf should be seedless?

I have actually found "Volunteers" near the base of my dwarf everbearing mulberry.  I actually potted one up and its grown to about a three gallon tree but no fruit.  I imagine it will take longer to fruit than a cutting or layer.  I have best results with layering but have been sucessful with cuttings.

Could I ask how old is the "volunteer"? and how does the cutting take to fruit?
Dont you have any small rooted cutting or air-layers? I would be intrested.

The volunteer is about 18 months old, cuttings fruit almost right away.. I always keep a few layered trees in 1-3gal size but do not ship!
