It has some kind of mild fruity scent, though it's not like passionfruit, or maybe some kind of muted version of it. I can't quite put my finger on it.

It's only 2 years old. Fruit set with a single tree seems difficult, like many Eugenia. I think the yields would be much better with cross pollination.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Eugenia anthropophaga taste report

I just had E. anthropophaga set a fruit. It fell to the ground on its own. It was very juicy and also very sour, with no detectable sweetness. There was some kind of mild pleasant aroma, but not strong enough to be interesting. The fruit has a very fibrous core around the seed chamber. It seems like it's best used as a lemon substitute.

I've had a klotzschiana take almost a year before sending up a shoot. I had checked what the seed was doing and it had grown a long taproot and just sat there, but I knew it was still alive.

I use a miniature porcelain mortar and pestle to grind GA3 into a very fine powder, followed by wet grinding with a small amount of RO water. Then I mix the slurry into RO water to get the final concentration. I find this to be faster than trying to dissolve it in alcohol, and there is zero alcohol residue.

to reduce the resinous flavor place the fruit in the fridge overnight before eating-

great job!

Also definitely not a dasyblasta- i have had trhe fruit and they are maybe a quarter to an eighth of the size

How would you describe the flavor of the real dasyblasta? Is it worth growing?

I was wondering about that, too. My fruit looks more like a Suriname cherry. Who knows what it really is since the seed is from Trade Winds. I've never tried Suriname cherries, so I can't compare.

Haha I would except I don't have the space for it. So many precious plants to hoard haha.

Hi forum, I am growing some Eugenia dasyblasta, and it recently produced some tasty fruit. The seeds were from Trade Winds Fruit and planted less than 3 years ago. I grow it indoors exclusively under artificial light. The plant in the picture has been growing in a tiny 3"x5" pot its whole life. It seems to easily set fruit unlike some other kinds of Eugenia.

The taste is very good, sweet with balanced tartness and very juicy. It is soft and practically melts in the mouth, and the seed is comparatively small. The fruit was picked such that it fell off with the slightest touch. I'm not sure what less ripe fruit are like. The flavor reminds me of those dried mango slices you can get at Asian supermarkets. There were no weird or objectionable flavors.

I also have an Australian beach cherry, and its flavor is kind of bland with not much flesh. The skin has a resin taste so its better with the skin carefully peeled off, but is a lot of work for such a tiny fruit. Perhaps it would taste better with more light.

Should have started this topic in April.

What is the TDS of your tap?

My apartment living room is full of plants under grow lights, no room for furniture. I've been able to maintain a pest free collection. My biggest problem is tall plants that hit the ceiling.

As an indoor gardener, I had to toss away my fig tree cause it was causing my whole apartment to smell like cat pee. Chilean guava never fruited for me indoors. I think it might need cooler weather to trigger flowering or something.

You can force the fruit to ripen completely by putting it in a cup and then placing another cup on top to completely seal it in. Then just wait until the scales fall off all at once.

Miracle fruit and the cedar bay cherry make excellent container plants. Annona stenophylla also stays tiny for easy container gardening.

Achacha trees get huge even in small containers.

Water the plant and collect the runoff that comes out the bottom and measure the TDS. Jabos don't like when the TDS is too high.

If you only have a few small plants in pots, you can try doing a hot water bath. Dip the plant in 120F water for 5 to 15 minutes. This should only be attempted as a last resort if you don't know if it will survive the treatment, better than the dumpster. This is actually the only method that works against root mealy bugs for 100% elimination.

I have for sale about 50-60 fresh miracle fruit and 4 finger lime fruits. Finger limes are about 3 inches long, no seeds. $60 for the bundle and free shipping.

Blame your state from making ebay and etsy charge you sales tax. Not all states require ebay and etsy to charge sales tax. Contacting Desantis about this problem won't do you any good cause he is the guy who upholds and demands the tax!
