I've had this plant, araca-una, fruiting for a couple years. It is quite good if picked totally ripe, otherwise too acid and bitter. Fruit looks a lot like red cattleya guava, just darker and with bigger seeds.

Good to know it Oscar! quite good :D
it seems to fruit at the same time as strawberry guava, maybe it can cross. The sad part is that for sure it will like it a lot to the fruit fly ...

Don't know if fruit flies like this species as much as strawberry guava. I will check that soon and report back.

Marlierea sp.

Marlierea - Small, subtropical or tropical tree related to the guava. Fruits are strawberry guava sized, dark purple in color, with white flesh having a mild, acidic grape or jaboticaba-like flavor. Quality is excellent. It is not known which species this fruit is. Can be container grown. Limited quantities, one pack per order please. #601

The above was the text they used on the site, as found in the Internet Archive snapshot taken in 2005, in the link below.

"... white flesh having a mild, acidic grape or jaboticaba-like flavor. Quality is excellent..."

I agree 100% with those words. It smells to guava+pomelo, very nice, and flavor is excelent if properly ripe. 16º Brix

Mines are pear shaped and the seeds were from USA, 5 years ago (I cant believe it was so far in time!).

Photos of our fruits and plants:

It bears profusely like a strawberry guava, but I prefer its taste.
