I'm moving somewhere cold soon. I am looking for suggestions of things that are easy to take care of in pots and fruit quickly (so no jaboticaba, even though they do well in pots). I've heard sugar apple is good, any other suggestions?

There are lots of luma planted in GGP. I haven't seen any ugni outside of Strybing.

UC Berkeley Botanical Garden is worth checking out if you have time to go across the bay.

For buying fruit, Asian and Latin markets to find more exotic stuff.

Thought this video was interesting. Has anyone tried the fruit? Wondering if it is that much better than other cactus fruit

Slawek was nice to my wife and I when we visited the whiskey Hill farms jungle, gave us a big tour and let us have some solanum cuttings. Lots of passionate people volunteering there not sure what your experience with them was. Don't care if people are crackpot on unrelated things.

Bronze loquat (or the coppertone hybrid) is a very common street tree here and tastes sweet, no acid with very little flesh. Not worth growing for food but a nice ornamental.

How high are the energy costs to heat these? Might end up in Minnesota at some point and would want to do this.

Is it Cherry of the Rio Grande?
Usually referred to as Eugenia aggregata?
If so, it's like an intense cherry.

Some stuff I saw online said it was a synonym but other said it was from Madagascar. Not sure which to trust

Anyone know how the fruit is on this? Saw one growing at UC Santa Cruz arboretum rare fruit collection.

What sort of soil do you have, and what amendments have you done? I'm suffering with awful clay soil that things grow slowly in, seems common to SB. Wondering what the correct treatment is.

I'm trying to find new plant related things to do in SB and the surrounding areas (main focus is tropical fruit but also like general plant stuff).
Have already done:
SB Botanical Garden
SB Orchid Estate
Mission Rose Garden
Franchesci Park
Orpet Park
Alice Keck
Courthouse / Sunken Gardens
Taft Gardens
Lake Carneros

You could try a Neotropical blueberry ala something in Cavendishia genus

My jabos periodically get bothered like that sometimes. They tend to spring back, sometimes it takes forrreeverrrr though. In my case, I think it's due to extremely hard water and lockout. I add a bit of fertilizer and that seems to help them out. Liquid fertilizer seems to really be the ticket for situations like these.

Which liquid fertilizer do you recommend? What chemical ratios for nitrogen, potassium, etc

Should I up pot it yet?

Leaves seem pretty thin.

Also, would azalea mix be a good potting soil for jabos? For the acidity

Which garcinias did you try besides imbe?

Have you attempted any garcinias? Didn't see any on list, curious if you tried them and they died.

Join SF Bay Area Tropical Fruit Growers Facebook group for more recommendations. You'd probably have the most luck at the Vietnamese markets in San Jose.

Have you attempted lychee here?

What are the temp highs and lows there? How bad is wind? Cool collection

We get over 100f very regularly during summer. The highest I've seen was 117f and a huge number of plants were damaged, even really hardy stuff like pineapple guava burnt up. The winter is cold so I am zone pushing a lot with some of this stuff. I just accept some frost bite and call it day, we get down to 25f sometimes, but generally briefly. It does tend to sit at 32-34f for hours at a time, sometimes almost the whole night. The greenhouse is very important for my potted plant collection.

It is extremely well protected from wind and we rarely see more than 30mph.

Do you protect anything in the winter (frost cloth, Christmas lights, etc)? That's nice about the wind it's a challenge in SB

Does anyone know if there is anything like CRFG in Minnesota or know of any good gardening / farming groups? I might end up having to move there in the next few years and would like to continue my hobby. This would be for growing outside, not space station / heated greenhouse tropicals.
