I still have Malika Orange Sherbert Sweet Tart hanging and about to start harvesting a bumper crop of large pink guavas and white guavas. I also have Barbados cherries that should be ready in a couple of weeks

Enjoy those Sweet Tarts! They're amazing.
-
I had sweet tart for the first time this year and it was a disappointment. But I want to give it another try. Do you know where they still sell them?
Is it possible that this cultivar likes close to ocean? The one that I had was from Excalibur, so far inland. Or maybe picked too early. It was sitting for a week to mature.
Other varieties from Excalibur were great, especially Beverly, my new love.
-
I really want to hear about Orange Sherbet. How intense the flavor can be. I tasted only one, and it was a mere shadow of PPK flavor bomb. But I've heard from others that it, too, is a flavor bomb.
-
I would love to hear about Orange Sherbet too. I swear I am not your stalker, John, although I piggyback on your posts. I just have one OS in a pot waiting to be planted, but I still can change my mind, because I have other candidates in consideration (Angie, Pina Colada, Sugarloaf, NDM4)

In Florida from north to south and east and west. I am as far from the ocean as you can get. Elevation 62 ft. I will never say that my Sweet Tarts are better than South Florida's because I frequent there vacationing and doing business. By next season I think they will be just as good. :)

Out of 30 varieties only a few Graham and Sweet Tart are still hanging. Picked 80 pounds Sweet Tart from two 3 year old trees and have 8 more ST trees left to pick, most look like they are holding 40 pounds each.
-
Picked my last 2 Juliette's today. Man they were so good, first time fruiting planted it 7-2018
May be a couple NDM hiding. Still got some Orange Sherbert and Kathy. Oh ya forgot my Keitt.
Star fruits are looking good, still needs some time.
Have a 10yr old Jaboticaba and have never seen a fruit yet.
-
Orange sherbert, ice cream and honey kiss still hanging on. All the others are done. Carrie just finished along with coconut cream and Fruit punch.
-
Orange sherbert, Maha Chanok. sweet tart m-4 and honey kiss

Man…boy do I wish some kind Floridian in this thread would sell me another box of their delicious mangoes👀😂 half joking but seriously if u have extra and are willing to ship i would actually buy them because after tasting Gary and Val Pride and Kesar and Maha Chanok I can’t even look at a Haden or a Kent anymore.

The problem is that the SE Florida mango season was an early one and it peaked 3-4 weeks ago. Keitt is late and still on trees and some other late ones too. At peak of our mango season there is a surplus to put in boxes and send out to other states in the US. Not so much the case now. Perhaps ask Alex-Squam at Tropical Acres if he can send out late ones.
For those who mail out mangoes, is the USPS Priority Mail back to normal? There were all kinds of delays a few months ago. My experience as far as priority mail for non mango items
-
My Valencia pride still holds 4 fruits, including one huge far from ripe.
-
Orange sherbert, Maha Chanok. sweet tart m-4 and honey kiss
Really good to know OS can be an August mango! If someone were crazy about citrus-flavored mangos, PPK and OS would give them a long season.

Bananas and pineapples are coming in at my house as well as the start of the muscadine grapes at the farm.
-
Took down the last of the Mallika and keitt. Took off my solitary M4, didn't want a critter to get it.
Also took off almost all that was left on the Chok Anon, Beverley and Sweet Tart. I still have a few fruit on those varieties though, and the last of my Carries are almost ready to pick. I grafted a branch to Osteen a few years ago and it fruited this year. The fruits are still on the tree.
-
With the season winding down you come to appreciate the later varieties. M4 and orange sherbets and Valencia prides , julies and carries still holding. Picked the last mallika yesterday, it was 2 pounds. Also a friend gave me his last Hatcher, it’s a big beautiful fruit.Though malllika has its issues, they make up for it for how long we’ve been eating them, and some of them have been as good as any mango this season. It removed itself from being top worked.

I really like this thread. Will run it again next season for I will have five more varieties going into production. I like the idea of adding muscadine grapes. I will plant two. One on each side of my moringa tree and let them climb it.

Ison nurseries puts out the Ison muscadine. It has a very good reputation you can see on the internet. I have some that I am going to try and root.

I have been really pleased with Supreme (also developed by Isons) but it is a female and needs a hermaphrodite like Ison to pollenate it. Some of the grapes on Supreme are 1.5" in diameter. That is a big grape! Burrying a portion of the vine that is still attached in moist sand is a good way to root them (simple layering).

Unruly muscadine grape vines do this rooting all the time. Self-rooting. On my property. These are the ones I will dig up carefully and put into pots. I will look for Supreme. My local Lowes have lots of assorted Muscadines in the spring and fall. One gallon about $7 or $6.

I have 7 “Keitt” mangos still hanging on my tree i planted august 2019. That little Keitt tree is Very impressive to me. The flavor Of my Keitts is mildly sweet, a little tart. I planted it for a late season producer and im happy with the results. Even if the other newer varieties are far superior, i don’t think they are anywhere near as late. Some Of the fruit need another month on the tree, still.
Seems like M4 is mostly a July mango. I don’t consider that late. Does anyone grow M4 that can vouch for it being later than July consistently? Or any of the superior varieties that consistently produce into August.
-
Since I purchased this last night. I don't know if this counts. I have one Buxton Spice and 4 Little Gem

Surprised no one has mentioned Honey Kiss or Neelam. Have been considering planting one or both in my yard.
I have seen in variety descriptions that Neelam might hang until October some years and Honey Kiss into September, but no one has really posted any details like ripening dates, location, fruit quality and quantity on homeowner trees,etc...
While most mangoes get overripe if allowed to hang, a few hold well on the tree.
One other fruit that is ripening for me now is Makok sapodilla. Dwarf tree with good branching and short internodes. My tree is was planted as a 7 gal old. Fruit is much larger and better quality than in previous years. In previous years the fruit were small. They had a greeninsh color tinge inside and grassy aftertaste even when fully ripe, but this year the fruit is similar in taste and appearance to a large Silas Woods.
Happy to report Makok fruit quality is now excellent as the tree matures vs just OK on a young tree.

If you like Ison, you will love Supreme. It is a very similar grape, just bigger (about twice as big) and a little better texture. The major draw back is the need for polination, but you should be fine on that score since you already have Ison. Sounds like you have the propagation down to a science.

I found a source for Supreme but they do not list Ison. Their grapes will be back in stock October 31st. I did see one that caught my eye it is called jumbo but I do not know if it would work as a pollinator for Supreme.
Any suggestions

Jumbo was created by the same breeder as Supreme: Dr. B. O. Fry. He worked for Ison's Nursery after he retired from the University of Georgia. A lot of the commercial quality muscadines are the result of his work with one or the other of those organizations (or what others built on his work after he died). I have not grown or tried Jumbo, but Supreme was released much later in his life and is a better grape from what I have read.

Good going Bo. Ison nursery is one of major muscadine nurseries
Set pressure treated poles ten ft apart.
Plant grape in the middle
Get the strongest vine growing straight up. You might use two strong vines...Don't kill other vines (the competition) until you see success.
Mark in Texas here grows lots of grapes.......
What he does is string two wires. The vine or two vines grows outward on the lower wire towards your poles that might be set in concrete...
Leave the upper wire bare! Until as the growing season progresses......
You take the grape clusters and hang them over the upper wire for ventilation and easier grape cluster picking.
Two wires are 5-8 inches apart/
You can PM Mark for the exact inches apart and how far above the ground to string the two wires.
Don't want to buy wire just for this? Use insulated electrical wire or strong plastic rope you find in the dollar store and Harbor Freight.
Good luck with your Supreme and Ison muscadines.
I have not grown or tried Jumbo, but Supreme was released much later in his life and is a better grape from what I have read
lol...... I don't think I have ever planted a mango tree that I first had a chance of tasting the fruit first. I read what was on the internet and planted away. The only tree.... was lula avocado which I ate some before planting the tree

Anyone with Cotton Candy still on the tree? Any varieties still hanging tough?

Last 2 Cotton Candy came off the tree yesterday. Still have about 40-50 Little Gem hanging, last year the final fruit came off the tree September 10th.

Tony, I don't think you're growing Honey Kiss, but have you tasted them? I was wondering how they compare with Little Gem and which would be the better late variety if someone had to choose.
-
Haven't actually tasted Honey kiss yet but a number of people I trust recommend it. The thing is, no one is posting any info about how late it hangs on the tree. Maybe it hangs on the tree well but all of them get picked early? It is supposed to be a classic flavored mango.
Little Gem is in the Julie family and depending on the ripeness stage it is picked, how long it is finished off the tree, and how late in the season it can taste a lot like its relatives. It can taste much like Carrie,Julie, Dwarf Hawaiian, or Graham depending on those factors. I had one that was very similar to Graham and one that was very similar to Dwarf Hawaiian in the past few weeks. Firmer less ripe fruit with more resin can taste like a firm Carrie . One thing I like about Little Gem is that even though fruit may be picked early,it holds well on the tree and is very slow to develop any off flavors even when it would seem to be overripe by most standards. I feel it is at its best when it is a little soft. Usually a few fruit are ready to come off every day or so after Mid July. I don't ever pull them off the tree, they will come off very easily when they are ready to be picked.

Ive let the tree fruit heavy again for second year so it hasn’t got to much growth time.

Very nice looking fruit. And like Orange Sherbet, how can you lose except that late mangoes can go uneaten as people have eaten enough mangoes for this year. About five years ago was posted that an orchardist removed or top worked his Keitt trees (Keitt is late) and put in mid season mango varieties.
*** I am sure all your Venus will get eaten as soon as ripe.

Still have10 Orange Sherbert hang on the tree. My observations are it is very pick friendly. We picked one in early June when it turned from green to light green. It took 13 days to ripen and was very good. We had it when it's nose turn yellow.Which is a sign to pick and it was excellent. I had one that had a little internal breakdown in the bottom. That part was good like orange pudding. I had one that was a drop or that got bumped and it was excellent. I think Weiss613 assessment of this mango is quite accurate.
I have one little gem hanging on the tree. The one's I had earlier in the season were sweet but not impressive. Starting to get a little bit of buyers remorse. The one i had just an hour ago change that. It definitely had West Indian flavor. Actually the West Indian sitting next to me said it taste like Mango Palwi. That mango is on the Helen of the West Indies. Which is Saint Lucia.
Sweet tart what can I say. I like them when they turn yellow on the tree. A half Walmart bag has a lot of bartering power. I got guavas and pineapple. Also a Maha Chanok 8)

In West Davie Fl, I still have Galaxy, Orange Essence, and Venus hanging on the tree. Less than a dozen of each.
-
Neelam still hanging and it tasted a bit coconuty. Very good taste.
-
Many green Keitt mangos remain on my friend's tree. No raccoons in that gated community. I picked several last week, which started to ripen by the next day. I don't understand the talk of getting tired of mangos late in the season. After suffering through weeks of having no mangos, these Keitts taste fantastic! ;D No fireworks, just plain old-fashioned good.
-
I am pruning back and found a few Cotton Candy, Graham and Juliette hiding.

My last 2 Little Gem mangos of the season disappeared last night. I think they were a week from being fully tree ripe. I was planning on sending them to a forum member but had some animal damage a few days ago. I decided to let them hang until they dropped. Something carried them off. Anyone still have mangos hanging in Florida? Keitt is gone from all the trees I have seen locally.
-
Last 3 Keitts went to a customer today. Mango Season is done.
-
I picked 26 Keitts today. Most were totally green with no color break. I left at least a dozen hanging in the shady parts of the tree. Squirrels (and/or birds) are getting some hanging ones. It looks like some will hold until October if left alone. The tree is in a small backyard behind a 2-story house with another 2-story house behind the fence, and it's partially shaded by other trees, as well, so not in a full sun location. Also, about 8-9 miles from the coast, north Broward.

More sporadic late bloomers occur::: 1. If you have enough trees or grafts as only a small percent is a 3rd bloom or later. #2. If you have not given up on the Varmint War A. Keep your bait stations full B. Keep your traps loaded C. Keep your guns loaded and warm D. Keep your friendly predator forces close
Other tactical ideas::: If the varmints appear to be winning, don't give up the hard fought "fruits of your labor and leave them behind to hang... Slowly pull your forces back by picking far away friendly fruit from the trees and taking them safely to the house compound. Increase your warm gun power around the evacuation facility and blow the *Hello* out of them as they approach. Do NOT let them walk up to your trees next to the house as an ambush of your fruits is inevitable... Use common warfare tactics and use your head while protecting the evacuation site and fruit picked back to the close house area and increase fire power, traps, and bait stations... And most of all... Don't take tactical advice from politicians... lol...

I just picked some tree ripe Choc Anon which set fruit in June-July. The tree had a normal summer crop but just one branch had a very late flowering. The fruit were much larger than normal and good quality.

Thus, I went out and slowly checked a Kent tree good today in my yard and Found one small Kent that I picked today.
The Valencia Pride picture was a fluke in regards to almost clean with almost zero fungus... This Kent picture is typical overripe fruit with fungus on the skin for my location but that's fine as long as it produces & tastes good... lol

Pineislander... Give me some pics of fruit on or off the tree as I'm primarily a typical visual kind of guy... lol......
As most all mango fanatics know, If it's orange when you cut into the fruit... It's sweet.... Yep "The sweetest are often not the prettiest or handsome" Pick your significant other carefully... lol.

When is Keitt the best mango of all? When it's the only one you got! Seriously, this mango is very sweet and delicious.

Agree, when orange like that.... it's definitely sweet.
Good job johnb51 keeping up the good fight vs. varmints in securing some good eating mangos late in the season.
I'm still at War with the varmints and will continue fighting as I love eating fresh orange mangoes off the tree....
lol... I just thought about it and I think I should give a daily Varmint War Casualty Report:::
1 small woodpecker flew into the yard for the last time today... Only feathers were seen drifting in the air on his
departure...
(Do not not not harm the very large endangered species woodpeckers as they do not not not eat mangos. I am quite sure as I let 3 grow up on my property last year to help scare off the small regular size woodpeckers...)

Took the last Beverly off the tree. I had been keeping an eye on it for some time thinking it was my last fruit. Then yesterday or was it the day before, I saw a freshly eaten seed and was very upset the critters got the last mango. I was relieved to find out they had not and am now wondering if I have other fruits in the canopy, green and hiding. I was not going to test my luck any further, the fruit came down and will ripen on the counter.

Palmcity, I can't take credit for protecting the fruit as it's not my tree so it's totally out of my control. The owner (friend) just lets me pick the fruit as she and her adult son spend zero time in their backyard. I'm blessed that her late husband planted a Lemon Meringue and a Keitt tree. Like I said previously, I have seen fruit half eaten by squirrels or birds. I'm going to check the tree next week for any remaining fruit. It's many miles away. If I score some, I'll let y'all know.

Not sure if this fits in as I understand that Choc Anon can fruit twice a year but I am in Lakeland, FL zone 9B. Pic as of yesterday and hoping we keep getting enough warm weather long enough for the fruit to mature.

If you like Ison, you will love Supreme. It is a very similar grape, just bigger (about twice as big) and a little better texture. The major draw back is the need for polination, but you should be fine on that score since you already have Ison. Sounds like you have the propagation down to a science.
The muscadine grapes finally went dormant and they shipped those two varieties to me. I planted them next to my Moringa trees in hopes they will climb

We've still got "Zebda" hanging and still green here in Southern California.

Local fruit I have enjoyed this past week:
Papaya,Avocado,Coconut, Starfruit, and the last few Barbados cherries of the year.
I know there was a ripe jackfruit available a few days ago locally but I was working and couldn't get to it.
Last year I had a few Maha Chanok mango in December and a few in January of this year. Also had off season fruit in March/April from Maha in previous years, but no off season fruit this year.
Praying hands Banana bunch ripening now if anyone locally wants to try the variety.

Found a ripe bunch of Tall Orinoco AKA Burro bananas ripening if anyone nearby wants to try them. This clone seems better than a half dozen others I have tasted, sometimes has a faint strawberry aftertaste if eaten at right stage.
