I just want to put this here because many people are buying buddy tape. And I have just shipped a lot of avocado scions wrapped in buddy tape. Ive got my grafting success rates near 100% now and I want other people to also have success. Especially with buddy tape, I have some steps to follow to ensure success. Buddy tape does not break down and crack like parafilm. It stays soft and sealed for a very long time. It seals in moisture very well. Which is great while the grafts are healing. But not so great once its healed but the scion is not breaking through on its own. What I have found is that after 3-4 weeks you need to come in with a razor and just make a very small cut at each bud site to release the moisture. Otherwise your scion can stall and rot. This allows the bud to stay dry and pull some sap and start growing. And after 6 weeks, you should very carefully remove all of the buddy tape above the graft union fully exposing the scion so that it can draw more sap and grow. The tape is not needed after 6 week, your grafts should be fully healed on regular sized cleft grafts. Then after 8-10 weeks or once you get a solid flush, on normal size grafts, you can remove the tape on the unions. Dont be in a big hurry to remove the union tape unless the scion is flushing and you are sure the union is healed.
I hope that helps people, it took a lot of experimenting to get my recipe dialed in and now I'm very confident with this procedure. Its very important to let the buds breath after 3 to 4 weeks.
I can post some pics if anyone is interested.
