Austin Texas Tropical / Subtropical Microclimates
« on: November 07, 2020, 01:49:28 PM »
Hey All,

I am relocating due to a job opportunity and was wondering what are some of the best areas to grow tropical/subtropical, any microclimates that are better than others, i.e Valley/by lake..

If you live in Austin, what do you grow out there?

As far as I know, San Antonio can grow some citrus and maybe avocado but no true tropicals, making Austin just too far north (and cold).  But Mark, who is west of Austin, has a big greenhouse with mangos etc!

Yes, Mark's greenhouse is da bomb!!!
They are in the hill country.
The tiny rollinia in a styrofoam cup that he gave me years ago is blooming. He and his wife are super nice!

Cheers,
Carolyn
