Tropical Fruit Discussion / Where to buy mangos in SW Florida?
« on: March 15, 2023, 06:35:46 PM »
I used to go to Pine Island. I'll probably go this year as well, but they got hit pretty hard by the hurricane. Not sure what the crop will be this year. I have a promising start to my glenn and pickering trees, but I wanted to try some new varieties to possibly add to my backyard collection.

Does anyone ship from the east coast? Your help is greatly appreciated.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango parent relationship graph?
« on: January 14, 2023, 12:33:11 PM »
Someone posted a very cool graph thing showing how the different varieties of mangos are related. I can't find it. If anyone could direct me to it, I would greatly appreciate it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Biggest pickering mango?
« on: July 30, 2022, 02:13:46 PM »
What's the biggest pickering mango you've had? I grabbed a few of these from fruitscapes the other day. They're the biggest I've seen.

I had an absolute treat today at Fruitscapes in Pine Island. A jesar mango. It was right up my alley. Complex flavor profile. Not just sweet.
Anyone have a tree? Curious about productivity, etc. I'm considering putting one in the yard.

I'm so upset about this. I couldn't bring myself to start looking for solutions. My 4 trees lost all their leaves, fruits, blooms, everything.

Can someone point me to a video which will help? I don't know if I should start pruning or what. I'm sick about it.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mango Tree frozen in time.
« on: November 05, 2021, 05:05:59 PM »
I have a glenn mango which refuses to flush. It has a thousand little nubs which are the precursors to a flush, but it won't flush. It's been like this for a few months now. Is this normal? I'm curious more than anything. The tree looks healthy otherwise.

I posted this in the general discussion forum. Hoping for some expert advice. Hoping this isn't citrus canker.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Is this CITRUS CANKER?

I'm trying to convince myself this isn't citrus canker.

I harvested my first fruit punch mango today. It looks gorgeous, smells somewhat fragrant, and is slightly soft to the touch. Essentially, it should be ripe.  Would you let it ripen on the counter? If so, for how long?

These are M4 and Lemon Zest trees. They've only been in the ground for six months +/-. I felt I should let them flower and finish that cycle, but I think I shouldn't let them fruit. I don't think the trees could support the fruit. So if and when I prune, when is the best time?

Thanks for your help

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Stake removed, mango tree leaning badly
« on: February 14, 2021, 10:24:42 AM »
I decided to remove the stake from my Glenn and the tree is leaning quite a bit to one side. Should I re-stake it? Trim it? Leave it be?

This tree has a growth pattern where a lot of the new flush has multiple branches. I'm wondering if I should trim anywhere or just let it happen for awhile. I think the one lower branch should probably be reduced to just a few offshoots. Your thoughts?

I'm new here. Just bought my first couple mango trees  and I'm wondering if I made a mistake. I bought a glenn and a fruit punch a few weeks ago. I planted the glenn in regular soil and the fruit punch where an old pine tree stump used to be. The tree had been dead for a couple years and basically turned into dust and mulch when I ground it down.

Anyway, the glenn is already showing lots of new growth. The fruit punch looks about the same. Maybe slightly taller, but not as much new growth as the glenn. But looks very healthy.

Have I made a mistake? Should I move the fruit punch? Am I overthinking this?
