Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Kumquat x Poncirus

Ilya11, ok, thanks for the info.

My FD tree which is old, had flowers and fruits this year that overlapped the Yuzu flowers and now I have fruits on my Yuzu grafts that should ripen in another month. In addition to the Yuzu, I have many other citrus varieties which are grafted on my old Bearss lime tree which is only 10 feet away from this FD tree. On the Bearss lime tree I have Sumo, Eureka lemon, var. Valencia orange, var. Hamilin, var. Blood orange, Australian finger lime, Hybrid key lime, Sanbokan, Pink Lemonade, NZ lemon, Tarocco #7 blood orange, Prague Citsuma, Kabosu, Satsuma mandarin, Harvey lemon, and Volckamer lemon. Some are fruiting, would any of these naturally cross with my FD?

Can I ask a question about my Flying Dragon tree. I have one branch with Yuzu grafted (10yrs old graft) and this year I had fruits of the FD and Yuzu. I saved the seeds from my FD fruits (lots). If I plant these, will there be any cross from the Yuzu, and if there is how can I tell from looking at the seedling.

Here's my FD seeds (1700). Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: What is eating my white sapote leaves?

I see swallow tail larvae on my tree all year long. It only takes one to eat most of the leaves off one branch in a day. Look closely and you may see one hanging on the leaf or branch. Just remove them if you find it and smash it, works well. When they are small, it is about 1" long, the big ones are like the photo, 2" long and ugly.

Brad, the guava is a fast grower. I will post a photo of the grafted branch tomorrow, looking good.

I got my cuttings last week from Frank, thank you.

I agree, swallow tail. Here's some photos of the big ones, they can be smaller.
Could also be grasshopper.

No not in pots, my trees are in ground. One seedling tree is a McDill seedling (10ft tall) which has the Younghan's Gold graft, the other seedling tree is the yellow sapote (8 ft tall) with the Supersweet graft. Between the two trees I have about 12 different varieties grafted on them. I had small fruits on most of the varieties but only these two had normal size fruits.

These fruits seem to get pretty large; I just took some photos today.

Satya, I noticed the new grafts takes at least 2 years before it will start fruiting and hold full size fruits. These grafts with the fruits shown are now 2yrs old for the Younghan's and 3 yrs old for the Supersweet. Got both scions from Mike.

Question on the fruits. My fruits are getting large now, but still green. How long do I need to wait before I can get some seeds from the fruit. Should I pick one fruit and cut it open or wait until the fruit turns slightly yellow?

Malhar, congrats on all your fruits, looks great. I only have a few on each of my grafted branches.
The fruit shape of Pinkturtle's seems different and the skin looks like it will be thicker than yours.

Here's some photos, if your fruits looks like these let me know. This is the first time for me to get full size fruits on my grafts.

lajos93,yes, the Bacon is a healthy tree and a seedling might be good to try. I did grow 100 sees from this hybrid bacon tree which is huge but since I'm in SoCal, can't tell you if the seedlings will be cold hardy. The parent tree is the largest avocado tree I have seen so far, much bigger in my opinion than the video of the London tree. This tree is about 30-40 ft tall, 40 ft wide, and the main trunk diameter is about 3 ft diameter. If you were in the US I would sell you some seeds to trial.

Anyone growing either Younghan's Gold or Supersweet white sapote?

I have both, also Bonita Springs. Just wondering if anyone has tasted these two Florida varieties and which one they liked better.

This is the first year I have fruits that will grow to full size on my grafts, so I hope to do a taste comparison in a month or so and report my findings. If you have any photos of the fruits, I would like to see it so please post it here.

Eggo, your lychee tree looks very healthy. How was the fruits, is the seeds small or large?

Your right about the longan, my tree had the most fruits in a while as well. But not as much as your tree.

Yes, you can graft mulberry now. I have been grafting a few new varieties on my Black Pakistan tree and the grafts are doing fine. Just remember to cover the graft if it is in direct sunlight until you see new leaves.

Lovetoplant, yes, I have grafted White Pakistan and Australian Green to Shangri La, Black Pakistan, Thai Dwarf, and everbearing trees, no problem.

The Australian Green is easier to graft than my White Pakistan, if you want the Australian Green just let me know if you order the cuttings. The White Pakistan is a slower grower than the Australian Green.
