Ok, thanks for the feedback. I think you may have tasted a cocktail grapefruit that was not ripe. I have a few cocktail trees from different sources and I do notice that one tree has fruits that is not as good as my original fruiting tree. My original tree scion wood came from a know CRFG (club member) friend who got one of the first cuttings when it was not out in the public. This is the fruit that is very sweet and juicy, everyone I give the fruits love it, much more than any grapefruit they have tasted. The second tree I purchase from a nursery (4yrs ago) has fruits that are not much to talk about, sounds like what you mentioned.

Yorgos, I was wondering if you have tasted either the cocktail grapefruit or the valentine grapefruit. If you did, can you give me a comparison of the bloomsweet to either of these I mention. If it tastes better then I might want to include it in my garden.

Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / Re: Anyone growing Oroblanco?
« on: July 04, 2019, 11:21:51 AM »
I have both trees which fruit about the same time and have given the fruits to others to try. Majority of the people that have eaten them say the Melogold is the better tasting and does not need any sugar since its so sweet. My Melogold has no bitterness to me. I had the trees with fruits for over 8 years now.

On you last photo showing the entire tree, is there damage on the bark skin of the taller trunk ? Not sure if its a glare from the sun or the trunk looks to be white on the right side (scraped) just above the bricks.

Your trees look healthy. Do you get any fruits from your seedling tree citrus yet ? If you do, are they any good?

Mark, I see the tree in the video, it is bushy as my grafted branch was. Sometimes its hard to see how the actual branch wood is growing (straight or droopy) unless you look inside the canopy/leaves (yes, hers is straight and nice looking). But I must admit my Holiday was grafted on the lowest branch on the tall seedling plant which is about 15 ft. So it may have been more in the shade of my other varieties that are grafted. I tried to tie the branches up to the higher branches of the tree but new branches would still look like the photo of Brad's tree (wants to point downwards). When the big avocado fruit starts to grown the branch droops even more.

I don't give any fertilizer to my trees, just good old water and they grow rather fast, the Holiday graft started fruiting by the 2nd year. My Hawaiian seedling rootstock grows about 8ft+ yearly so I need to cut it back every year. Any grafts I put on this tree grows fast and fruits rather quickly. Maybe the Holiday would have grown straighter if it was on its own rootstock and not grafted on a small side branch on the lowest part of this tree I have. I do like the taste of the fruit.

Brad, I did have a grafted Holiday tree branch (purchase 1 gal graft plant from greenscene, Julie Frink) and the branch grew just like your trees. Always dropping and never grew upwards toward the sky. I waited 4 years to get a few fruits to taste ( 18 months) and it was very good. But due to the branch always growing sideways and drop, I got rid of my grafted branches.

Boxturtle, your CnC fruits look real nice.

I have the following pluots/apriums: flavor grenade, emerald green, splash & flavor delight because after tasting these with the others mentioned here (except for flavor king, never tasted), these are my favorites. You can go to the Fullerton Arboretum when the fruits are ripe they have most of the named varieties growing. For my tastes I like the crunchy flesh which is sweet so flavor grenade is the one I love to eat.

Yes, I was surprised to see that yellow skin also. That's why I took the picture inside (kitchen) with the yellow papaya next to it, very unusual.
Both tasted good. The larger green one tasted a little waterly but good. The yellow one was good, maybe a little more tastier than the green one.

I tasted one fruit from my grown seedling tree, the large green fruit seedling was very good, kinda like a fuerte flavor.  It only had 2 fruits since I had the seedling, must need a pollinator but I don't remember seeing any flowers on it. The tree is a fast growing one, it gets over 20 ft so I cut it back every year to 12 ft. In

The yellow fruit seeding tree had normal green fruits and it was very good. This tree fruits yearly so I hope to get a better taste of the fruits this season. I will take many photos of the fruit this time. I have the tree planted at my son's place. The new growth leaves on this tree is much more red/brown color than any of the avocado trees I have. I will try to take a few photos of the leaves to show this color.

Can anyone help me identify these two varieties of avocados that I had when vacationing in Hawaii?

The larger green skin tasted good, I planted the seed (15yrs+ old now) and it only had 2 fruits.

The yellow colored skin avo seed I planted has fruit every other year and my fruit does not show the yellow color, it's green.
