We've Been Growing Mango Trees All Wrong!
« on: August 28, 2021, 04:49:41 PM »
Just came back from Isla de Cedros (Cedros Island). This is a remote island off the coast of Mexico about 300 miles south of the US border on the Pacific coast side.

It is a small community with about 2000 local residents. There is a major water shortage on the island but the locals seem to grow plenty of mango trees with reclaimed water and no extra fertilizer. Just plant and grow was what one of the locals told me. They didn't know the varieties but there were a few. Definitely Atulfo or manilla and Hadens  and one that looked like Atkins.

Was difficult to get lots of pictures since we were riding in the back of a truck but I was able to snap a couple. Guess, sometimes it's best to K.I.S.S.

The trees don't look healthy -- not enough leaves for the tree size due to lack of water.

Yeah, but the locals are growing fruit for their families. That's a big plus with no care.
