I get that it's probably squirrels that are stripping the way immature fruits off my MEXICOLA GRANDE tree.

But what would take a hard green half-grown mango?  The cultivar is ICE CREAM and both this and last year my half-grown fruits vanished well before they were ripe.  I doubt it's humans that swiped them since the fruit was not visible from the street and the fruit didn't just fall off because it was nowhere to be found.

Could it be 'possums?  Don't think it would be racoons because I have not seen any around here in a long time.

In any event it's a mystery to me.

Regards,

Paul M.

Don't animals always leave some evidence?

Yes, besides people....

And I believe that that's because my little mango tree was not visible from the street and is located close together in with other plants so that anybody who might wander past my front yard would not even be aware that it's there.

But I still can't fathom what animal would find a hard green mango fruit palatable.  Whatever it was must've carried the fruit off since there was no residual evidence left behind.

I have the same problem. Only 6 mangos on my 2nd-year-fruiting tree this year and all but one were taken down this past week. They were sitting under the tree with a small bite mark on them. The one left hanging has a bite mark too.

Ice Cream mangoes stay green when ripe.

Coons. They will tear up green mangoes. Especially young ones. Squirrels nibble in the areas where there is a hint of ripening.
The Earth laughs in flowers. And bear gifts through fruits.
No where to plant it ...but at least I got it. ;)
F*ck squirrels and deers

I had a squirrel take a bite out of 20 unripe nectarines. But he left them on
the ground after he took his bite? I also came out of my house in time to see
a squirrel running up tree with a full grown tomato. He dropped it after I spooked
him. Did you look for tracks?

It’s probably a raccoon.
Or a squirrel. Squirrels here eat unripe peaches the size of golf balls.

I'm with you, CZ!  I detest squirrels without any reservation. They're nothing better than fluffy tree rats, IMO!  At least they haven't messed with my passionfruit so far.

Guess I'm gonna hafta set out  for 'em a bowl of some of the toasted wheatgerm mixed half and half with concrete powder and a drop of anise oil.  Squirrels and rats love the stuff.  I put a bowl of water nearby cuz they're thristy after eating the dry mix.  The water helps form an intractable BM that does them in.

Best of all, since the mix is not poisonous I don't have to worry about the neighbors' cat or dog, etc. catching an affected rodent and eating it —such as with DeCon!  The best thing about my mix is that rodents that eat it never develop any resistance to it as with Warfarin-based poisons.

OK — HTH

I’m gonna try this out
Also trapping is decent as long as there is a human way to get rid of them

Hey Jabo, just FYI . . . .

Be careful to not touch the bowl with your fingers if you can help doing so.  That tends to make rats suspicious when they detect a human scent on whatever you've handled.  I've even rubbed a tiny bit of anise oil on my fingertips to disguise my human odor when I'm preparing the mixture just in case I accidentally touch the bowl, etc..

I also like to use those 6-in. dia. little aluminum disposable pie/tart pans you can get at the grocery store to prep the mix in.

OK  —  Good Luck!
