Fantastic! Truly one of the most magnificent Hawaiian banana varieties, though there are many. Had it in our collection years ago but unfortunately lost it due to neglect, which led to BBTV infection. We got a couple beautiful racks from it when it was in its glory. Insane how rare this variety is, given its beauty.

For those interested in bananas, I highly recommend treating yourself to the book "The World of Bananas in Hawaii: Then and Now", which includes an in depth look at Aeae.

That's really impressive! I've heard it's a delicious variety.

Beautiful nanners.  My AeAe is growing well and already throwing out pups after just one year in the ground.  I was worried about growing this variety in my climate after hearing others were having trouble with it. Spaugh had no problem growing it, so I figured it would be fine.  Better than fine, if I can keep the gophers always from the roots.

The p stem broke in half and this rack fell over in the weather here.  It is not quite where I wanted it but it ahould ripen hopefully.  Next time I will prop it.

Im glad you made this thread because I had forgotten about the rack that was on the tree here until I saw your post.  Then I went down there yesterday and the plant had bent in the middle and the bananas were on the ground.

Last year you alao had a rack going the same time as mine was forming.  Mine last year got cooked in the sun.  I think there was a lot of heat at the end of summer that messed them up.  Not as hot this year.

Nice, Brad. Those look plump enough to me. Try cooking these when ripe. I think Hawaiians ate this banana as a cooking plantain more than for fresh eating but I could be wrong
