Shade cloth used as Frost cloth for light freeze in a pinch
« on: January 15, 2026, 06:47:34 AM »
Shade cloth used as Frost cloth for light freeze. I have plenty of frost clɔth from when my trees were smaller I still have use for it. Irrigation is my primary Frost protection but I will use Frost cloth on my Tropical Delight netted cantaloupe melons. They're not very tall so can easily be covered and will deploy C9 incandescent Christmas lights which I have plenty of. As I was contemplating a thought occurred to me I have some 80% shade cloth that would create a barrier from any mango bloom from lite frost. Not much heat retention but if temperatures are above freezing that's not a concern. Anywho thought I would share that idea for anyone in a pinch.

I've used shade cloth before with plastic tarp on top. It trapped heat fine and kept tarp from touching the leaves. That small air gap makes a world of difference.
