Starfruit Question For Fruitlovers
« on: October 14, 2017, 04:39:35 PM »
Hey Fruitlovers,
A couple of years ago I bought Starfruit seed from you.
Today my Starfruit tree is around 8ft tall and just started blooming.
Assuming that it sets fruit...
Could you give me any background info as to what kind of Starfruit I might expect?
Sweet? Tart? Variety type?
Thanks for your help!

Kevin

A good start would be figuring out from what variety star fruit tree the seeds came from. Regardless, these do not come true to seed. It is axiomatic that a seed from a sweet fruit will have a better chance of producing a tree with sweet fruit than if the seeds were from a tart fruit producing tree. You probably won't be able to know for sure until you try the fruit from your seedling tree.

I was hoping Fruitlovers over in Hawaii could give me a little background as to the parentage of the seed he sent me.
I realize most seeds are a genetic crap shoot.
And I will be content with whatever this tree produces.
I was just curious since it started blooming this week.
Thanks.

All my trees are sweet types, so it will be sweet fruit. I can't tell you exact cultivar it came from, and there is variation from seed in any case. But seedlings from sweet types definitely produce sweet fruit. BTW tart type starfruits are almost non existent here now.

Thanks for the info.
This tree has grown amazingly well and I was very pleased to see it blooming.
Thanks again.
