Tropical Fruit Discussion / Grafting Chempedak To Jackfruit
« on: July 26, 2025, 10:07:46 PM »
Has anyone done this before? I assume plenty of times, but a forum search didn't yield anything for me; must've not done the right key words or something.
I have some small chemp seedlings from fruit from Frankies I plan to approach graft onto some jacks.
It should help with root rot since jack roots can take the cold better, but of course, the chempedak section on top should be just as cold hardy as a regular chempedak which won't give me noticeable advantage and I assume my plant will die later when it gets colder in the greenhouse. But in FL, the main killer of these trees it seems to be is windburn, not the cold.

Guessing ends tomorrow at midnight.
Thank you!!!

Germination rates vary, but with 1000 seeds, you will easily get over 100 plants

No varietal name, but good to grow out and see
Thank you!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / A Brand New Mamey Hits the Books!
« on: April 08, 2025, 09:06:03 PM »
Hey guys, so you know how last summer we found the G-1, G-2, and G-3 mameys planted by Dr. Jonathan Crane at TREC that finally fruited after almost a couple decades...and the fruits were really amazing, tastewise some of the best ones out there... I like G-3 a lot I'll add a picture too
Well, my good friend Xain found the fourth tree starting to fruit!

What makes this one special? It has tiny fruits! This is perfect for northern growers that can't wait 1-2 years for fruits to mature from flower.
I bet if we timed this flowering early spring we could get fruits in late fall.

Xain also says this one tastes really great too.

Funny how these trees were planted a long time ago, and we are now finally blessed with some S-tier cultivars.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Passing of forum member Giant Gecko
« on: March 20, 2025, 10:03:13 PM »
I am deeply saddened to announce that one of our rare fruit growers Giant Gecko (David Miller) has passed away a couple days ago from cancer.
Many of you know David as he regularly posted on the PGA (Psidium Growers Association) thread and was responsible for bringing in and distributing many new varieties of Psidiums.
I had the privilege of meeting David this last fall and his collection was amazing. He even had some Campomanesias and Psidiums that were fruiting in pots. I know a lot of us have gotten plants and seeds from him. He faced his health challenges with courage and unshakeable faith. He has left behind his wife and two young kids.

I just wanted to share a quote from one of his posts on Facebook, "I started buying seeds native to Caledonia around 2012. Stopped keeping reptiles but started growing mainly subtropical fruit trees from Brazil 2019. Mainly varieties of ecotypes, growing conditions and size. Always learning something. Thank you for all the inspiration, advice, and learning my friends. I'm going on the ultimate vacation, you all keep up the great work".

I will always think of David every time I see the Psidiums and other plants I got from him.

Here is a link to the gofundme for his family - https://gofund.me/095ad629

Moderator, I hope this allowed, please let me know if not.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Looking for an avocado...
« on: January 04, 2025, 09:09:45 PM »
After reading Coconut Cream's taste reviews
I am wondering if anyone can do a multigraft avocado?
I have some space opening up after I got a freeze in my greenhouse :-[ - lost a few mangos...but I wasn't a fan of ndm anyways...
I understand there has to be type a and b, so is someone able to do a nishikawa (B) and lula (A) multigraft tree for me?
Includes type a and b....or some other good avocado...like Reed (A)
 :-*

I guess scions work too,
will just need to plant a few avocado seeds from the grocery store and graft in 6+ months lol.

But thing is, I've never seen people really talking about flower types of avocados here.
Is it something not really important?
I assume it would be more important for someone like me where there are no neighboring avocado trees anywhere.
