I guess what I am asking is what is the practical difference between the grafted and non-grafted plants you are selling?

The seedlings are grown with the seed of the original Mother Topaz plant.
Seeds can potentially have some genetic variation.
Not so with the grafted plants.
Cuttings are taken from the original Mother Topaz plant.
Since grafted plants are created using mature fruiting scions...They should also bloom and fruit sooner.

Most pitangatubas are sour. Kevin is selling a sweet selection.

Really? All the ones I have grown from seed are pretty sweet. I wonder if their flavor is dependent on climate.

My pet theory... a little cross pollination with nearby Pitombas may be responsible.

Plenty of people don't even believe sweet ones exist. I've gotten one sweet one, and around five sour ones from seed, though one of those did recently start to improve. But the sweet one was planted in-ground, so maybe growing conditions are responsible.

Any grafted topaz plants left?
I would like to be the Eugenia King of New Orleans and spread tropical fruit throughout the city starting in the 9th Ward. I'm especially interested in guava and eugenia from around the world and in breeding new varieties by chance, coincidence, and accident.

Got my topaz in the mail today! I’m happy…nicely packaged , nice healthy plant , even though delivery took longer than expected. tracking said the package got sent from Alabama to San Francisco, then sent back to Texas , before making to Hawaii. Probably something to do with the hurricane we just had a couple days ago .

I have also heard that Eugenias in general can vary wildly in flavor within the same species from seed to seed. So maybe I just got lucky. My original plant came from Adam at FFF. The mother plant I have is crazy productive; it is a smallish plant in ground and put out like 20 fruit this late summer. The fruit seem to drop while still green, but the flavor is still sweet and excellent.

I have some really nice Grafted TOPAZ Sweet Pitangatuba plants for sale...

Topaz has a nice balanced flavor with sweet tropical-fruit overtones.
Plus Topaz fruit has a very unique appearance... Chartreuse exterior when ripe...with a melting, Juicy, Golden pulp/interior.
And not bright yellow like the standard Pitangatubas.
Is Topaz a hybrid? Maybe. A mutant? Possibly!

Here are some typical plants that have already sold:

TOPAZ - A Chartreuse Tinted Fruit with a Golden Interior:
