Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Finding Land in South FL
« on: May 29, 2023, 06:17:20 PM »
Yes you could find land for that price but not sure of any zone 10A/B areas. A lot of the places with the cheapest land are in the middle of nowhere Florida zones 8 & 9. Not sure if you would drive or fly down but probably not within 90 minutes of any major airports.

Your best bet for subtropical area in Florida is Pine Island, that just got crushed by Hurricane Ian. It may be 50k or so an acre so maybe you could work something out.

Everybody is moving to Florida with cash. Not sure if you were planning to pay cash or not but land loans are very hard to get from banks. Interest rates would probably by over 10 percent now. 1/4 acre is too small to get a farming loan too.

Isn’t there a large Sensation tree at Fruit & Spice? I thought I remember seeing one last time I was there during winter.

If you paid the full invoice on time  not just the deposit, they normally ship out Monday or Tuesday with email confirmation.

Fruitscapes grafted and sold that variety a few years ago, Steve or Jesse may know or sourced the budwood. . I bought a tree too.

The road/bridge to the island is gone. Only access is by boat. No way for emergency vehicles to gain access as of today. Absolutely terrible. The few people I know that stayed and had large mango trees said they are no more. 150+ mph winds. Unsure about any forum members

Amazing it’s taken this long! Cool contest idea. Based off the clue and prior guess there should only be six numbers left to pick from if my math is correct.

From last months weather event here in 10A the damage noted on my trees was comparable to mango damage. They are very vigorous and shooting back all over the trunk, going to have cecropia bushes this summer.

The first Pumpkin Pie Mameys sold from Zill had Parrita on the tag  so I’m sure that’s the same variety

They also propagated other avocado varieties like Mavi Maki, Kool Bamboo, Victoria, and Schautter #2 recently from what I saw

I believe it’s grafted by Fruitscapes and is from budwood of a red avocado from Hawaii.
