Tropical Fruit Discussion / Inga cinnamomea albinism?
« on: June 05, 2021, 06:34:13 PM »
I don’t really know if this is normal but the other two in the same lot are green with the red trim as well. The bottom two leaves have been this way for the past two weeks and have not since changed color. They get plenty of direct sunlight during the day in the greenhouse

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Garcinia Sp. Pacurí
« on: March 19, 2021, 01:53:36 PM »
I just wanted to get this topic out there because I believe this garcinia has a lot of potential for those who want to zone push. As far as I know, this species has only been sold by Marcus here on the forum and I happened to have the opportunity of buying 6 seeds of the “large fruited” variety. That being said, there is little to no information about this species online with the exception being the information provided by Marcus. He says they are hardy down to -5 C. I can attest to that claim. Without a doubt the most cold hardy garcinia I have come into contact with. Not only that but 3 of the plants are very vigorous, growing even during the winter months here. They have great flood tolerance as well as frost tolerance. The only issue being that I cannot test compatibility as a rootstock nor quality of fruit.
If anyone has information about the Latin name of this species or anything they know about the species I think that would be most invaluable especially for those trying to push the limits with this genus

(Do not tell me they are an achacha; they are clearly not)

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Plant illnesses
« on: December 29, 2020, 01:48:18 AM »
I’m pretty novice when it comes to diagnosing what is going on with the different species of plants I have growing. I have some pictures of leaves of different species that seem to be exhibiting different illnesses or overwatering depending on what the consensus is. It’s flooded multiple times within my greenhouse so that could lend to some of these issues worsening. Any diagnoses or remedies would be very helpful.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Artocarpus ID
« on: November 23, 2020, 09:49:57 PM »
I know it’s dark but I need an ID for this plant labeled jackfruit I bought from a local nursery. It is very different from any jackfruit I’ve seen. It’s been outside in 9a temps for over a year. I have my jackfruit next to it if that helps. The jackfruit is on the right while the “jackfruit” is on the left. I was thinking it’s a chempadek or some sort of jackfruit hybrid. No idea

Recently, I got some cola rostrata seeds, which all germinated. When I looked at the seeds there were holes all over them. Lo and behold some beetle like insects were falling out of them while I was rinsing the seeds off.
Cola species can live without their seeds beyond a certain point (I assume) but I wanted to know how or what I should do to make sure I can get rid of the weevils or whatever they are before they end up killing the germinated seeds or becoming an infestation.

Is there a way to know if there are larvae or eggs within the seeds? Any suggestions are appreciated.

As of right now, I’ve submerged the seeds completely but I do not think that is enough to kill them.

« on: July 15, 2020, 10:32:33 PM »
With Covid affecting everyday life, I wanted to ask if anyone in the area knows of any nurseries, parks, or gardens to visit while I take a trip to the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area. I am not a local nor have I been to this part of the US before. If anyone could give me any places where I could go let me know!
